Early run lifts Cardinals to D League win over

CUSTER — Mason County Eastern is still
undefeated, both overall and in the West Michigan D League, after
defeating Onekama Monday night, 52-34.
The Portagers (1-2, 1-2 WMD) failed to put points on the board in the
opening quarter as the Cardinals (4-0, 3-0 WMD) took a 17-0 lead into
the second. |
“We missed a ton of shots inside, we just
couldn’t get them to fall,” Onekama coach Roger Smith said. “But, we
came back and played pretty decent the rest of the game.”
The Portagers were led by Skyler Kimpel and Thomas Koon who each had 10
points, while Kimpel grabbed 12 rebounds and Koon had 10 to go with four
steals. Jake Matthews added six points for Onekama.
The Cardinals were led by Eric Purple with
14 points and eight rebounds, while Josh Bonnett added nine points and
Kyle Purple had seven points, nine rebounds, eight assists and two
steals.
