WALKERVILLE — Onekama teed off on Walkerville Monday, sweeping its West
Michigan D League doubleheader with a pair of 3-inning shutouts.
The Portagers dominated the opener with a 35-0 victory before their 20-0
triumph in the nightcap.
“We put the ball in play, did some good things defensively and pitched
really well,” Onekama coach John Neph said.

Leading the Portagers (7-5, 4-0 WMD) at the
plate in opener was Thomas Koon who batted 5-for-5 while teammate Joe
Kosiboski went 4-for-4. Koon also
got the start on the mound, and in the three innings, allowed just one
hit while tallying nine strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Kosiboski pitched a no-hitter while walking two batters
and striking out six in three innings.
At the plate, Koon and Danny Gillespie each went 3-for-3, Kosiboski had
two triples with four RBIs, and Alex Block, Joe Eno, and Bryce Reckow
all had two hits apiece. |
