Portagers split series with Pirates

HART — The Onekama baseball team split a
doubleheader with Hart on Monday, dropping the opener 10-7 before
rolling to a 15-3 mercy-rule win in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Portagers (3-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in
the first inning following a three-run home run by Joe Kosiboski.
However, Onekama was unable to hold onto the lead and Dan Gillespie
was tagged with the loss on the mound following four innings.

“We had a couple bad innings,” said Onekama
coach John Neph. “It got away from us a little in the end.”
Jared Miller led the Portagers at the plate
with three hits and three RBIs, Kevin O'Connor had three hits and Thomas
Koon and Alex Block had two apiece. Onekama had another big inning in
the nightcap, and this11 runs in the first to all but end the game.
Gillespie finished with the three hits and
four RBIs, Miller had two hits and two RBIs while Block and Stephen
Verrett each had two hits.
Koon started on the mound for Onekama and
had eight strikeouts in three innings while Kosiboski pitched the final
two frames and had three strikeouts.
