¡Bienvendios a la Clase de Español!

Wow!  I can hardly believe that we have already completed our first month of school…  It has been a fantastic start.  I couldn’t ask for a better group of students.  Here is a bit of what we are doing this month…

Spanish 6th grade:  This fabulous group of students is laying the foundation for all of Spanish.  They started the year learning the Spanish alphabet and all the Spanish speaking countries and capitals.  We have just begun learning greetings, introductions and farewells.  By the end of the month, students will be able to write and speak short grammatically correct sentences in Spanish.

Spanish 7th grade:  These students are a bunch of hard workers!  We will continue this year with a review of last year, with the addition of some new material.  They are currently learning how to describe the location of people and things.  Next week the students will review numbers (0-100) as well as telling time.  Toward the end of October, students will review weather and seasons, but also be able to write/speak in the present tense.

Spanish 8th grade:  The year started with a review of greetings, farewells and the verbs tener (to have) and ser (to be).  The majority of the month will consist of working on the unit “In the City”.  During this time they will learn how to ask, give and follow directions, describe the location of things, and discuss future activities and obligations.  As part of their unit test grade, students will choose a project that best demonstrates what they have learned.

Spanish I:  I am so impressed by this group!  It will be a wonderful year.  Spanish I is fast paced, but I have no doubt everyone will keep up the diligence they have shown thus far.  They have reviewed sentence structure, greetings/farewells, the verb ser (to be) and giving descriptions of people/things.  Their first test is on October 8.  Unit 2 will cover all of October and into the beginning of November.  The focus of this unit is exchanging information about time/schedules, location, and discussing future activities and obligations.

Spanish II: Ten terrific students!  I look forward to doing many fun things with this class.  The majority of first semester will be spent refining the skills learned from last year.  It is remarkable how far they have come since last year!  During the month, they will work on exchanging information about activities, and people/things.  Every Friday in October the students will work on their first 2 page paper.  This month they are writing about themselves…anything and everything they want J

As always, if your child would like extra help please remind him/her to make an appointment with me.  I am available before and after school as well as during seminar and lunch.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I realize it may be hard to help your child with Spanish, but reviewing the vocabulary flash cards is tremendous help in your child’s acquisition of a second language.

Hasta Luego,
