Deciembre, 2009

¡Bienvendios a la Clase de Español!

It is nice to see such a bounty of refreshed faces after a long weekend.  I think it was just what we needed!  Here is what we are doing in Spanish during the month of December…

Spanish 6th grade:  The super sixth graders started learning the months, seasons and days of the week.  This week they have been creating a song to help them remember their vocabulary.  I didn’t realize how much talent was just waiting to shine!  We will spend the rest of the month learning about the human body and understanding oral commands.

Spanish 7th grade:  The splendid seventh graders continue their unit on the human body.  This week they learned how to use idioms to express states of being and how to say where someone is in pain.  Before the end of the month, they will review clothing, colors, and conjugating verbs, culminating with a fashion show!  On fiesta Fridays, the students started acting out an Incan legend and has since developed into a really fun movie project…so many creative minds at work!

Spanish 8th grade:  The excellent eighth graders are in the process of creating a weather broadcast.  They are working hard in groups to prepare a formal presentation about the weather in a Spanish speaking country.  Next, the students will review clothing and conjugating verbs.  In this unit they will make a taped commercial for a clothing store.  I can’t wait to see what they think of!

Spanish I: The funny first year students started their third unit this week.  In this unit, the students are reviewing how to express their likes and dislikes, the weather, and conjugating present tense verbs.  Nothing can stop these students!  They are so smart and I am continually awed by what they can do.

Spanish II:  The sensational second year students are wrapping up the second unit this month.  Currently, we are learning how to make equal and unequal comparisons.  Next week they will work in partners to create a power point comparing two Spanish speaking countries.  This will be their first formal oral presentation in our class.  I am excited to see them shine!

It was wonderful to see so many parents during conferences.  Thank you for all your support!  As always, if your child would like extra help please remind him/her to make an appointment with me.  I am available before and after school as well as during seminar and lunch.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I realize it may be hard to help your child with Spanish, but reviewing the vocabulary flash cards is a tremendous help in your child’s acquisition of a second language.

Hasta Luego,
