HS Shop
I am excited about the
students in the class, their attitude and attention as
we go through some of the basic shop instruction and
safety this first week.
If your student is in his or
her first year of High School Shop, there will be plenty
of careful teaching, demonstrating and testing on shop
and machine tool safety. The Shop 1 students will be
building an assigned project, yet to be determined, that
will provide opportunity to learn and practice basic
woodshop skills and use basic woodworking joints and
construction tecniques. A sheet was sent home detailing
this and is to be signed and returned.
If you student is in his or
her 2nd or 3rd year of HS Shop, he or she will be
choosing a project to build, getting the project
approved by both you and me with the clear understanding
that projects must be paid for in full before the end of
this school year and that 33% of the estimated final
cost of the project must be paid before he or she may
start work. A sheet was sent home detailing this and is
to be signed and returned. Safety practices will be
reviewed and tested with special emphasis on the table
saw.
Thank you for returning the
signed sheet "Classroom and Shop Policies". For those
who may have sent both sheets back, I am including the
information from that sheet below, so you can review it
for yourself or with your student. Please note that I
take the safety of your student as my top priority and
insist that he or she know and practice the safety rules
of the shop.
If you have questions or
concerns, please feel free to call me between 9:00 and
9:30 am or 11:35 and 11:55 am. I am teaching just the 2
shop classes, so I am not on campus much of the day.
Leave a voicemail at extension 320 and I will get back
to you as soon as possible or email me at
pfoster@manistee.org
Thank you for working with me
to make this HS Shop experience enjoyable, productive,
and above all, safe for your student.
