Onekama drops 2 to Mesick

MESICK — Onekama was swept in a doubleheader against Mesick Thursday. The Portagers (2-2) lost the first game, 7-6, after taking their first lead in the top of the fifth and final inning.  But, after three runs in the sixth, Mesick captured the victory.

The Portagers’ Chelsea Miller went 2-2 with two RBIs, while Sherece Revolt and Jennica Mathieu each hit a single and Paige Rutowski had a double. Mathieu scored two runs, while Ambir Parmelee, Katie Prielipp, Rutowski, and Revolt each scored a run.

“I was proud of my kids,” Onekama coach Phil Sedelmaier said. “We hit the ball well, that first game was just a heartbreaker.”

Onekama was shut out in its second game, 14-0.

“They were just hitting well,” Sedelmaier said of Mesick’s 16 hits in the game. Brooke Sedelmaier, Olivia Bolthouse, Miller, and Rutowski each had a hit.

“I think fatigue might have been a factor,” Phil Sedelmaier said of the fourth game the Portagers have played in the last 27 hours.
