Chelsea Miller is named Female Scholar
Athlete of the Name: Chelsea Miller Present Grade in: Senior Parents : Sallie & Pete Miller Sports: 9-12 in Basketball, Volleyball and Softball. Ran track in the 9th and 10th grade All Conference: 2nd Team all conference in volleyball 2008 Other awards: Volleyball & Basketball team Captain Class Officer: Class Representative 3 years Class Representative: Prom Representative freshman year 2006; Class Representative Homecoming her sophomore year 2007; and Homecoming Queen her Senior Year 2008. Member of Sadd 4 years Student Council: Student Council member and Treasurer 1 year Other Activities: Yac member 2 years Future Plans: Chelsea is planning on attending West Shore Community College in the fall of 2009 for 2 years then transferring to Grand Valley to become a Pediatrician. |
Levi Capper is
named Male Scholar Athlete of the Name: Levi Capper Present Grade in: Senior Parents : Amy Vanderstar & Nathan Sports: 9-12 in Basketball and Golf All Conference: 1st Team All Conference in Golf Freshman, Sophomore and Junior year. Honorable Mention in Basketball 2 years Other awards: Named Scholar Athlete Junior year for 3rd marking period Member of Sadd 4 years National Honor Society: Junior and Senior Years Other Actives: Plays the Guitar and Doing Dual Enrollment at West Shore Community College Future Plans: Attend Michigan State University in the Fall of 2009 |
Criteria for Scholar Athlete The Athletic Boosters ask the coaches of the qualifying marking period to nominate a male and/or female athlete from their sport. All nominations are then turned into Duane Keith, athletic director, and Gina Hagen, Principal. The criteria for these nominations are Consideration of GPA, Citizenship, Team/Community Contribution, and Sportsmanship/Conduct. The awardees are then presented a scholar athlete medal for their varsity jacket. A certificate by the athletic boosters is presented at the next school board meeting following the selection process. All in all there will be 8 scholar athletes per school year |
