LUDINGTON — Brethren, Onekama, and Manistee Catholic Central all walked away from the Lakeside Links Golf Club Tuesday night as winners. It was the first full 18 holes each of the West Michigan D League teams have played this year.

Brethren (2-1) picked up two wins by beating Pentwater 189-253 on the first nine holes and beat Walkerville 211-244 on the next nine.

Patrick Spalding was the match medalist against Pentwater with a 42, followed by Roger Mullet with 43, Dillon Vanderbee with 51 and Justin Brown with a 53.  Spalding had the high score again against Walkerville by scoring a 45. Mullet shot a 48, Vanderbee a 59 and Brown a 64.

MCC also walked away with two victories, beating Walkerville 172-225, and Onekama 169-178. Zach Smith was the match medalist in the first nine for the Sabers by shooting a 42. Zack Bialik and Nick Kolanowski each shot a 43 and Nolan Gunia was a stroke behind with a 44.

The Sabers (6-3) then avenged an earlier season loss to the Portagers. Zack Bialik medaled with a 38, while teammate Zach Luomala shot a 42, Kolanowski a 43 and Zach Smith a 46.

Levi Capper sizes up his birdie putt on the par 4, 6th hole of the East Course at Lakeside Links after skipping his approach shot across the water to this location.  Levi putted for birdie, but settled happily for par after his flirt with danger over the water hazard.

In their first losing effort, the Portagers (6-1) were led by Levi Capper’s 41, followed by Drew Griswold with a 44, Jake Matthews with a 46 and Brenner Johnson shot a 47.

The Portagers won earlier in the day however, against Mason County Eastern, 168-188.

By shooting a 40, Griswold was the medalist for his third straight match. Capper followed him with a 42, while Matthews and Johnson each shot 43.

Jake Matthews completes his warm-up swing before preparing to make his tee shot on the par 4, 5th hole of the East Course at Lakeside Links.  Jake hit his tee shot long and straight, wacked his approach shot into the small green and two-putted for par.

Cody Sievert finishes high on the follow-thru of his practice swing on his tee shot at the par 4, 6th hole of the East Course at Lakeside Links.  Cody selected a five iron off the tee as a water hazard is situated in the gully before the elevated green.  He hit his tee shot down the middle of the fairway in great position to go to the green on his second shot.

Drew Griswold positions the ball on the tee of the 9th hole of the East Course at Lakeside Links.  Drew hit the ball long and straight down the fairway on his way to posting a score of 40, good for match medalist honors against Mason County Eastern.  This marked the third time in as many matches that Drew earned match medalist honors.

Brenner Johnson peers down the 9th fairway of the South Course at Lakeside Links in preparation of hitting his tee shot.  Brenner pulled his shot a little to the left, but made a nice second shot into the green to go on to make par.

Skyler Kimpel works to position his hands more over his left leg and the golf ball more forward in his stance on his tee shot off the 9th hole of the South Course at Lakeside Links.  Skyler is working to gain better position relative to the ball off the tee.  Here he prepares to take a practice swing before launching the ball down the fairway.
