Onekama vs. MCE – Game 6

The JV Lady Portagers took on the Cardinals of MCE in what would prove to be their toughest match-up of the season thus far.  This was another substitute game for the Portagers with Baldwin not having a JV team.  Both teams struggled to score for the majority of the game, but in the end the Cardinals pulled away with a win giving the Portagers their first defeat of the season.  The Portagers never let down, but still couldn’t overcome the tough defense of the Cardinals.  The final score was 40–29 in favor of the Cardinals.

Emily Pomeroy and Lexi Howard were the high scorers with 8 points each.  Jaylee Brown was close behind with 7 points.  Danielle Ward had 3 points, Lindsay Nesburg had 2 points, and Nicki Slater had 1 point.

Defensively for the Portagers, Danielle finished with 8 rebounds and 2 steals.  Jaylee was close behind with 7 boards and 7 steals.  Lindsay and Emily pitched in with 5 rebounds and Lexi with 3.  Ashley DeRooy and Nicki each pulled down one rebound.

The JV Lady Portagers travel to MCE for another meeting on Tuesday, January 13, 2009.  The Portagers look forward to the rematch and look to come home with their seventh victory.  Go Portagers!     ~Coach Torrey
