Onekama vs. Bear Lake
Game 11

Lady Portager basketball continued with a wonderful inter-county matchup with the Bear Lake Lady Lakers.  We knew the Lakers would come in to this game with intensity after losing the first match-up.  The game proved to be exciting as expected.  The game would stay within about 4 points through the first half.  But the third quarter would be the difference maker.  The Lakers outscored us 14-4 making a good lead for them starting the final 8 minutes of the game.  The Portagers fought back in the fourth with a 15-9 run, but it wasn’t enough at the Portagers fell by a score of 39-47.

Rebounding, foul trouble early on, and free throws were key components to the Portager’s loss.

Coming back from an injury keeping her on the bench for some time, Jaylee led the team in scoring with 14 points and 4 steals.  Danielle finished with 7 points and Lexi and Emily each had 6 points.  Lindsay had 3 points and Brooke added 1 point.

Lexi and Lindsay led the defense.  Lexi finished with 5 rebounds and 3 steals while Lindsay finished with 5 rebounds and 1 steal.

Lady Portager basketball travels to Marion in a non-conference match-up on Monday, February 2, 2009.  The Portagers will again look to improve their record to 9 wins.  Go Portagers  ~Coach Jason Torrey, 1/30/09

Note from Bear Lake's Coach: My girls played tough and it helped playing Custer before playing Onekama to prepare us for their full court pressure.  Onekama never gave up and kept going after us all the way to the end. Shelby Dansby and Ashley Rupert each had 14 points for the Lakers.  Ashley Rupert had 15 rebounds.  Katie Mortenson and Jaimey Ferguson each had 9 rebounds.   ~Coach April Bradford, 1/30/09
