Onekama vs. Big Rapids Crossroads – Game 7
January 16, 2009

JV Lady Portager basketball traveled to Big Rapids to take on the Cougars.  In their sixth conference game of the season the girls knew that this would be an important game and would accept nothing less than a win.  The Portagers also faced another problem, going in to the game without their starting point guard.

Any preconceived issues were forgotten as the Portagers pulled together as a team and put up a dominating performance.  The girls quickly took control of the game and never looked back.  The Cougars made a slight comeback in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough and the Portagers pulled away with a 41-28 win.

Leading the way in scoring was Lindsay Nesburg with a season high 11 points.

Ashley DeRooy also finished with a season high of 10 points.  Danielle Ward put in 9 points, and Emily Pomeroy finished with 5 points.  Brooke Sedelmaier ended with 4 points and Lexi Howard had 2.

The defensive charge was set with Danielle’s 7 rebounds and 1 steal.  Lexi pulled down 4 boards, and Ashley finished with 2.  Nicki Slater, Brooke, and Lindsay all finished with 1 rebound.

The JV Lady Portagers welcome the Brethren Bobcats for their second meeting on Monday, January 19, 2009.  The Portagers look forward to the rematch and look to come home with their seventh victory.  Go Portagers!    ~Coach Torrey
