Onekama at M C E – Game 13

Portager basketball traveled to Mason County Eastern to take on the Cardinals.  The first meeting between these teams dealt the Portagers their first loss of the season and a tough rivalry within the conference.

This game proved to be just as exciting as the first.  The Portagers played hard throughout the game and overcame a quick lead put up by the Cardinals.  The third quarter ended with the Portagers down by four, but in the end turnovers and fouls allowed the Cardinals to take a strong lead and take the win with a score of 37-26.  The Portagers played with a lot of heart and effort.

Leading the team offense was Emily with 11 points.  Lindsay, Nicki and Danielle each put up 4 points.  Jaylee put in 2 points and Ashley finished with 1.

The defense was led by Danielle and Nicki; Danielle pulled down 6 boards and took the ball away 2 times while Nicki grabbed 4 rebounds and had a team high 8 steals.  Lindsay and Jaylee each had 3 rebounds and combined for 5 steals.  Ashley, Lexi and Brooke each finished with 1 rebound and combined for nine of the team’s steals.

The JV squad will travel with the Varsity to Baldwin on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, but will not play a game due to Baldwin not having a JV team this season.  The JV’s next game will be on Friday, February 13, 2009, to take on the Cardinals again at home.  The Portagers look forward to the rematch once again with the tough opponent.  Good luck Portagers!
