Onekama vs. Mesick

Lady Portagers finished their season hosting the Mesick Bulldogs.  This was the first meeting of these two teams for the season.  A win would boost the Portagers to a 10-8 record and make for a positive finish to the season.

This game would prove to be one of the most exciting match-ups of the season.  The first two quarters of play ended with each team leading after a quarter by only 1 point.  The Portagers rallied in the third to finish with a 31-24 lead.  Fouls would be a major factor in the game, which caused serious issues for the Portagers in the final minutes of the game.  The Portagers started the game with a full bench of 8 players, but with just over a minute the fourth player fouled out leaving only 4 players on the floor.  At around the 40 second mark a fifth Portager player fouled out leaving only 3 players on the floor.  Several trips to the free throw line and good shooting from the same helped the Bulldogs pull ahead and take the win with a score of 46-40.

Heartbreaking is the only way to describe this game.  The heart showed by the Portagers was at its peak throughout this game and could be seen with each passing second.

Lindsay and Emily led the offensive charge with a combined 26 points.  Nicki and Jaylee each finished with 4 points and Danielle finished with 3.  Ashley ended the game with 2 points and Brooke finished with 1.

Danielle had quite a defensive game with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.  Lindsay also had a great defensive performance grabbing 5 boards and getting 2 steals.  Nicki finished with 3 rebounds and 4 steals, while Lexi, Emily and Ashley each had 2 rebounds.  Brooke grabbed 1 board in this performance.

The JV Lady Portagers finished with a 9-9 record.  As a first year coach with this program, I was pleased with all that we accomplished.  The girls gave it their all no matter what circumstances they were faced with.  They were extremely fun to work with and I look forward to next season as returning players and myself look to improve on our success.  See you next season!       ~Coach Torrey
