Onekama vs. Big Rapids Crossroads
Game 17 --February 25, 2009

The JV Lady Portagers hosted the Lady Cougars in their second conference match-up of the season.  In their first meeting of the season, the Portagers came home with the win, but the Cougars seemed determined to make this a much better game than our first meeting.

Scoring was once again the biggest foe for the Portagers.  The girls made several attempts, but few found their way through the rim.  Defense kept the Portagers in the game with the lead staying within no more than 7 points.  A fourth quarter surge brought the game to an exciting finish.  In the end the Cougars were able to hold on and took home the win with a 35-33 score.

Emily headed the offensive charge finishing with 11 points.  Danielle and Jaylee followed with 6 points each, and Lindsay added 4 points.  Lexi, Brooke and Ashley each finished with 2 points.

Danielle and Lexi lead the defensive charge with a combined 24 rebounds and 6 steals.  Lindsay grabbed 5 boards, and Nicki and Jaylee each pulled down 3 rebounds.  Brooke had 2 rebounds and a team leading 5 steals.  Emily and Ashley each had a rebound.

The Portagers look forward to a day to regroup and go into their final game of the season with a little rest.  The Portagers wrap up the season with the Mesick Bulldogs in a non-conference match-up.  The game is set for Friday, February 27, 2009.  Go Portagers!     ~Coach Torrey
