Portagers fall to
Hornets
Manistee News Advocate Report -
Onekama dropped a third-straight game with a 40-14 loss to New Lothrop
Friday night.
The Hornets (3-2) were first on the board
with a 47-yard touchdown half way through the first quarter. They also
got down to the 2-yard line at the end of the quarter, but the Portagers
(2-3) held, and took over to score on a 41-yard touchdown run by Joerdon
Daldos with 1:51 left in the quarter. The 2-point conversion was
successful, giving the Portagers the lead, 8-6. |
But, with :01 left in the quarter, the
Hornets scored on a 20-yard pass, making the score 12-8 going into the
second quarter. The Hornets dominated the second quarter, scoring two
more touchdowns for a 20-8 lead at halftime.
Onekama scored in the third quarter on a
21-yard pass from Dan Gillespie to Adrian Norman, and Daldos rushed for
the 2-point conversion.
Despite the loss, Onekama coach Jim Hunter
wasn’t disappointed in the team’s three-hour journey to New Lothrop, a
2006 state champion and back-to-back playoff team. “We played
hard,” Hunter said. “I thought we competed better than we have. It’s a
very good football team.” |
