Portager Football 2008

The Portagers defeated Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy 62-0 in an afternoon Game on Saturday, August28th.

Onekama had 10 penalties and Crossroads had two. Onekama had two illegal procedure penalties on their first touchdown drive and an off-sides penalty on the point after touchdown attempt.

With a 52-0 lead at half time, Onekama/ Bear Lake played all their substitutes. “I give Crossroads a lot of credit,” said Hunter. “It’s very difficult to get a new program going. We were there just a few years ago when we re-started our football program.”

Senior Joerdon Daldos was the leading rusher with 14 carries for 135 yards, three touchdowns, and two extra point conversions. Freshmen Adrian Norman returned two punts for touchdowns — 57 and 60 yards. Senior Zach Teachout carried the ball seven times for 111 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore Travis Teachout covered 91 yards in 14 carries and scored three touchdowns. Freshman Tyler Fogarty gained 45 yards in 12 carries and scored one extra point. Senior Luke Forgarty caught a pass for a two-point conversion.

Crossroads is a young team in its second year of competition. Hunter said he was glad the junior varsity players were still up with the varsity because everyone got the chance to play.
