MESICK — The Onekama boys basketball team
wrapped up its regular season with a 56-45 loss to Mesick Tuesday night.
The Portagers (12-8) were led by Levi Capper
who scored 22 points and added eight rebounds and two steals. Hunter
Slade and Skyler Kimpel each chipped in six points as well.
“It was a close game all the way through,”
said Onekama coach Roger Smith. “They just pulled away at the end.” |
Mesick was only up by two at the end
of the first quarter, 16-14, before each team netted seven points in the
second quarter to go into halftime at 23-21.
The Bulldogs started to pull away in the
third, netting 17 to Onekama’s 12, to go into the final quarter leading,
40-33. Mesick’s 16-12 run in the fourth quarter sealed the win, 56-45.
“We played hard, we’re just in a little
funk,” Smith said. “Mesick’s a good ball club. They played good defense
on us. We just couldn’t get the job done tonight.” |
