Panthers Edge Portagers

BALDWIN — News Advocate — The Onekama boys basketball team suffered another close loss in the West Michigan D League in a 58-56 defeat at the hands of Baldwin on Tuesday night.

The Portagers (12-6, 10-4) didn’t do themselves any favors by turning the ball over 21 times against the Panthers (15-3, 13-3).
“That’s just too many turnovers,” said Onekama coach Roger Smith.

Onekama senior Levi Capper scored a game-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds, while Hunter Slade had 15 points.
Also for the Portagers, Adrian Norman scored seven, Ryan Miller had four points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, Joe Kosiboski had five points and Skyler Kimpel had one.

Quinten Latimer led Baldwin with 20 points, Courtney Cox scored 17 and Dominic Kelly scored 16.

The Panthers held a 17-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, while Onekama took a 30-29 advantage at halftime.

The third quarter was a difference maker, as Baldwin outscored Onekama, 18-8. The Portagers rebounded in the fourth and were within two points, but turned the ball over twice in the final 18 seconds.

“The kids played hard,” Smith said. “I can’t fault the effort.”
