ONEKAMA — Despite missing two
starters due to injury and illness, the Onekama boys basketball team was
able to edge Pentwater Tuesday night, 64-59.
“It was close all the way, and
I’m really proud of the way our guys stepped up off the bench,” Portager
coach Roger Smith said. “Without two of our starters, this is a big
win.” |
Portager guard Hunter Slade sat the
game to rest a thigh bruise he suffered in the final seconds of the
Onekama’s last game against Frankfort. Freshman
guard Adrian Norman couldn’t play due to the flu.
“Everyone who came off the bench today played well in
their place,” Smith said. “I thought everyone played great defense.”
Levi Capper led the charge for Onekama (11-5, 10-4) by
scoring 30 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
Also for the Portagers, Skyler Kimpel had 16 points
and five rebounds, Ryan Miller added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four
assists, Joe Kosiboski had seven points and six rebounds, while Thomas
Koon added one point.
Pentwater (8-8, 7-8) led the Portagers after the first
half 34-29, but Onekama fought back in the second to capture the
victory. |
