April 9 vs. Baldwin 4:00 The Onekama/Bear Lake baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Baldwin Panthers in non-league match up.

April 9 at Mesick 4:00 The Portager baseball team lost two games at Mesick last night.  In the first game, Danny Gillespie pitched five fabulous innings of shut out baseball, but the Bulldogs rallied for 5 runs in the last inning to win the game 5 to 4.  Gillespie also had a big, two out bases loaded double to drive in three runs in the game.  Jared Miller had two hits in the game.  In Game Two, Mesick won by a score of 8 to 4.  Hunter Slade had three hits in the game with two doubles and a triple and Ryan Miller hit home run. The baseball team is AT Big Rapids Crossroads Academy on Monday.  Game time is 4:00 pm. ~Coach Neph       See also, News Advocate Report

The Onekama/Bear Lake Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Frankfort.  In Game One, the Portagers rallied with four runs in the last inning but fell one run short and lost by a score of 9 to 8.  Jared Miller, Dan Gillespie and Zach Teachout all had home runs in the game. In Game Two, the final score was 17 to 1. ~Coach Neph

April 23 Home vs. MCE 4:00 The Onekama/Bear Lake Baseball Team won two very important games over Mason County Eastern.  In Game One, it was Onekama 9, MCE 0.  Danny Gillespie went the entire game for the win.  Leading the offense was Ryan Miller with 3 hits including a 2-run home run, Thomas Koon with 3 hits and Zach Teachout with 2 hits.
In Game Two, the Portagers won by a score of 15 to nothing.  Thomas Koon pitched the entire game for the win.  Leading hitters were Koon with 2 hits and Shawn Gunyon with 2 hits and another home run for Ryan Miller.  The Portager defense was stellar as well not committing an error in either game!!   ~Coach Neph                News Advocate Report

May 7 at MCC 4:30 Chris Wright raced home to score the winning run with 2 outs in the bottom of the last inning of the game as the Onekama/Bear lake baseball team pulled out a dramatic win over Manistee Catholic Central last night by a score of 3 to 2.Thomas Koon pitched all seven innings, striking out 10, to earn the win.  Manistee Catholic Central won the first game by a score of 10 to nothing.  Manistee News Advocate report
May 9 Tourney at Glen Lake TBA The Onekama/Bear Lake baseballl team dropped both games at the Glen Lake Baseball tournament on May 9th.  In Game One, the Portagers lost to host Glen Lake by a score of 11 to 10.  In the second game of the day, the Portagers lost to Manistee Catholic Central by a score of 14 to 8

May 14 at Baldwin

The baseball team won two games last night at Baldwin.  In Game One, Thomas Koon pitched the entire 6 innings to earn the win while striking out 10. Leading hitters for the Portagers were Shawn Gonyon with 3 hits, and Zach Teachout and Hunter Slade with 2 hits each.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Onekama rallied to score 3 runs in their last at-bat to tie the game and then won it in the seventh inning by a final score of 11 to 10.  Hunter Slade drove in the winning run with his fourth hit of the game to score Joe Kosboski and secure the Portager win.  Jared Miller had 3 hits while Kevin O’Connor and Danny Gillespie each contributed 2 hits.  Nathan Fitch came on in relief to earn the win!  News Advocate Report

May 18 at Brethren 4:30 Onekama was firing on all cylinders Monday in its doubleheader against Brethren, sweeping the Bobcats 23-0 in the three-inning-long first game and 16-1 in the nightcap. News Advocate Report

The Onekama/Bear Lake Baseball Program won both games of a doubleheader at home last night over the Sabers of Traverse City Christian School.  In Game One, it was the Portagers winning 11 to 1.  Danny Gillespie and Kyle Acker shared the pitching duties while Jared Miller led the offense with 2 hits.  In Game Two, it was the Portagers winning by a score of 9 to 4.   News Advocate Report

Tuesday 5/26

The Onekama/Bear Lake Baseball program finished league play last night with a resounding 16 to 1 victory over Big Rapids Crossroads Academy in Big Rapids.  With the win, the baseball team finishes with a league record of 11 wins and 1 loss and guarantees the Portagers at least a share of the West Michigan D League Championship!    This is the third League championship for the Baseball Program in the last five seasons! The baseball players have also received compliments for umpires and opposing coaches for their sportsmanship and spirited play throughout the season.  What a successful season for the baseball players!  ~Coach Neph
