Portager Boys take fourth at May 3rd Bobcat Invitational
The Portager
boys earned 64 points for a fourth place finish points at the Bobcat
Invitational, held on Sat., May 3 at Brethren High School.
Winning the
meet were the Flying G’s of Gladwin (166.5 points), followed by Manton
(165.5 pts) and Manistee (79 pts.). Other meet participants included Big
Rapids Crossroads (30), Brethren (7.5), Pentwater (5), Mason County
Eastern (3.5) and Grand Traverse Academy (1).
The 3200m relay
team of Nathan Morrill, John Evans, Jaron Llewellyn and Chuck Schoedel
ran a season’s best time of 8:57 for a second place finish. The 400m
relay team of Eric Maddux, Parker Johnson, Troy Rau and Joerdan Daldos
placed fourth in a time of 48.2, while the 800m relay squad of Daldos,
Evans, Johnson and Maddux also placed fourth in 1:40.7. Finishing fifth
in the 1600 meter relay (4:01) were Evans, Schoedel, Llewellyn, and Ryan
Pienta.
Llewellyn
posted a personal best of 4:50.7 to take second in the 1600 meter run.
Schoedel ran for second place in the 3200 meter run (10:55) and placed
fifth in the 1600 meter run (5:05). Nick Bradford was second in the high
jump with a leap of 5’10”, and fourth in the discus with a throw of
110’7”. Bradford scored a personal best time in the 300 meter
intermediate hurdles with 46.7, taking fourth place. He also finished
fifth in the 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 18.9.
Parker Johnson
placed third in the pole vault (12’), while Evans set a personal best
time of 55.7 in the 400 meter run to place fourth.

It was a battle for the win between the powerful Gladwin
Flying G’s and the Manton Ranger’s and in the end they each tied with
146 points. With changing weather conditions throughout the day it made
it tough for the afternoon competitors.
