Athletic Boosters Present Certificates to Scholar Athletes

At the March School Board meeting Dennis Zupin gave out the Onekama Athlete Booster Scholar Athlete for the first marking periods. Recipients were Carman Howard and Nathan Morrill.

        Nathan Morrill Male Scholar Athlete
of 2nd Marking Period 2007-08

Present Grade: Senior
Parents: Janet & Paul Morrill

Sports: Football and Track, 9th thru 12th grade Wrestling, 9th thru 11th grade with Frankfort Co-op and Senior year with Manistee Co-op , Freestyle Wrestling with MRA

Other Awards : Coach’s  Awards 11th grade Track  and Senior year Wrestling, Most Improved Wrestler 10th grade, Academic Scholar Award Senior year Co-op Wrestling with Manistee, Co-Captain Manistee Wrestling Team.       Nathan also is one of couple of students that as received a Varsity letter from 3 different schools through the Onekama Co-op in sports.

National Honor Society: Senior Year

Other Actives: Coached Middle School and Freestyle Wrestling ,Volunteered at Michi-Lu-Ca, High School Band 9th thru 12th  ,Participated in lute MSOC

Future Plans: Attend Lake Superior State University in the Fall of 2008 and Majoring in Forensic

Class Representative: Junior and Senior year

Sadd: Sophomore year

National Honor Society: 2 years

Other Actives: Volunteering to help with Future Stars in Basketball,  and Volunteering at the Humane Society

Criteria for Scholar Athlete

The Athletic Boosters ask the coaches of the qualifying marking period to nominate a male and/or female athlete from their sport.  All nominations are then turned into Duane Keith, athletic director, and Gina Hagen, Principal. 

The criteria for these nominations are Consideration of GPA, Citizenship, Team/Community Contribution, and Sportsmanship/Conduct. 

The awardees are then presented a scholar athlete medal for their varsity jacket. A certificate by the athletic boosters is presented at the next school board meeting following the selection process. All in all there will be 8 scholar athletes per school year (4 Male, 4 Female).
