Onekama takes 2nd at WMD Conference

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!! to the varsity golf team for their second place finish in the WMD Conference. Onekama entered the WMD Tourney held at Lakeside Links in Scottville last evening in third place. After play concluded, Onekama bettered their standings in the conference by putting themselves into a tie with the league leading Manistee Catholic Central team. Brethren/Bear Lake golfers won the title by shooting 332. Onekama shot 25 strokes more to finish with a 357. Onekama’s low man was Drew Griswold with an 85, followed by Jake Matthews’s 87, Levi Capper’s 90 and Brenner Johnson’s 95. Drew, Jake and Levi all finished in the top ten to earn a WMD Conference Tourney medal.

We played dual competitions earlier in the season and used wins/losses to determine 50% of the standings. You can see the standings prior to the tournament.
Dual Competitions = 50%
M.C.C. – 1^st place – 6 points
B/BL – 2^nd place – 5 points
OHS – 3^rd place – 4 points
MCE – 4^th place – 3 points
W – 5^th place – 2 points
P – 6^th place – 1 point

The other 50% came from the WMD Conference Tournament results. You can see the results of assigning points to the dual competitions and the tournament and the result.
WMD Tourney = 50%
B/BL – 1^st place – 6 points
OHS – 2^nd place – 5 points
MCE – 3^rd place – 4 points
MCC – 4^th place – 3 points
W – 5^th place – 2 points
P – 6^th place – 1 point

Final Results –
B/BL – 11 points – 1^st place
MCC + OHS – 9 points – tie for 2^nd place
MCE – 7 points – 4^th place
W – 4 points – 5^th place
P – 2 points – 6^th place

MCC shot a 372 (without their 2 man)
Pentwater did not have enough golfers to field a team
Walkerville shot a 488

Onekama worked their way into a second place finish with MCC’s demise in tournament action. Can’t remember a time when the leader of the conference going into the conference tournament lost the tournament to three teams. – MCC got beat by B/BL, OHS, and MCE

The Onekama team is off to the Wolverine today to play a practice round in preparation for the district match this Thursday. The team went with Brethren/Bear Lake. Duane Keith will accompany the team on Thursday as I will not be able to walk the course, little alone function at the event.

Reporter's note:
While my heart goes out to Coach Zadow after her untimely injury, the team and fans of OHS golf team can rest assured, she has the team primed and ready for the upcoming tournament events. It no doubt, will be very hard for her to sit on the side lines watching the next events unfold as she nurses her injury. Coach Zadow has given them the instruction they need to wrap up this season with a bang. ( A little help from the Golf Gods these next few days couldn't hurt though....)
