Three way
tie for Match Medalist Wraps Up Win Over MCC
Breezy, overcast skies for the match, which were
much improved weather conditions compared to previous games, spurred the
team onto a victory over Mason County Central April 17 with a final team
effort of 181 to 194. For the first time in the history of OHS golf,
team members shared a (3) three way tie for Match Medalist as well as
team lowmen.
Shooting a personal best, Freshman
Brenner Johnson turned in a final card of 45 to join team members Drew
Griswold and Levi Capper who also shot 45 to capture the days title of
Match Medalists and team lowmen. Shooting just one stroke more for 46
was Jake Mathews which rounded out the scoring four that took the match
win over MCC. Shooting, but no factor in the final scoring, Josh Cebula
brought in a 56 and Cody Sievert , who struggled with his game carded
65. We have all had one of "those" days where you can't shake off a bad
hole and recover for the next ones. I have no doubt we will be hearing
more about Cody through out the season.

Cunningham takes his tee shot on the first hole at Lakeside Links as two
Mason County Central competitors look on.
The next match will be a Conference match at County Highlands against
MCE next Tuesday. Tee off time, 4pm.

Josh adds a special
"flair" to the game of Golf and is a joy to have back on the team. I'm
sure we will hear more of him as the season progresses as well. His love
for the game shines through while his sportsmanship un -wavers in all
circumstances, however, I have to wonder with his "partner in crime",
team alumni Tim Veverica now graduated, will he have it in him to carry
on the comedy that kept me going when I was stuck as a
reporter. Those two taught me a lot about the game , whether the terms
were real or not. ( I was so green back then) There was the "swat",
"whack" and setting up to tee off in opposite directions to speed up the
game!
MCC Coach ,Eric Asiala, back after a four year
hiatus
extended their invitation to bring (2) two more players and OHS
accepted. New to the game, Freshman Tabitha Belinger and Paul
Cunningham, previously a manager for the team, shot it out in a head to
head competition amongst themselves. Tabitha scored 69 to Paul's 62.
Seems Tabitha now owes Coach Zadow (1) one ball for losing to Paul. In
talking with Coach Zadow, she expressed a sincere dislike of Tabitha's
"pretty colored " balls, so Tabitha....she does NOT want one of the pink
or orange balls! Better look for a Callaway or Titleist.( Hint, hint
from this reporter)..
It's so nice to see the team carry on
traditions over the years. I feel like I am home again! Sportsmanship is
alive and well . Having it all bundled in this team makes the entire
community proud. Carry on Golf team! Shoot long and straight! You now
stand 2-1 overall and 0-1 in Conference play.
