J.V. Defeats Coleman 20-18 October 6, 2007 |
The Onekama-Bear Lake Football team won its second game of the year with a 20 to 18 victory over Coleman. The Portagers opened up a 14 to nothing lead on two touchdown passes from Thomas Koon to Jake Matthews. Chase Calloway added the critical 2 point conversion following the first touchdown. In the second quarter, with the Portagers clinging to a 14 to 12 lead, the defense rose up to stop the Comets deep in their own end. Then, Chase Calloway broke loose for a 90-yard touchdown run to up the lead to 20 to 12. |
Coleman came back and
scored a touchdown in the third quarter, but the Portager
defense denied the two point play to preserve the 20 to 18
lead. Coleman threatened throughout the remainder of the game,
but the Portager defense was able to keep them out of the end
zone. Chase Calloway (16) and Thomas Koon (11) lead the defense
in tackles. The Portager defense intercepted 4 passes. On
offense, Calloway lead the way with 180 yards rushing and Jake
Matthews had 86 yards in pass receiving. |
JV Football Schedule
Next Saturday, the JV team will play at 11:00 am as part of a JV/Varsity football doubleheader against Vestaburg. |
