The Onekama
Days 5K races were held Saturday with another record turnout with 300
plus participants. This year’s races were organized and sponsored by
the Onekama Athletic Boosters, Onekama Lions Club, Snyder’s Shoes and
Asics. A new option for runners this year was the first ever Screamer 5K
course, a super-fast, mostly downhill, race, in which participants were
bussed to the top of M-22 hill, and sped to the finish line for some of
the fastest finishes of the day. The 5K walk, 5K Classic and The
Screamer all started at the same time and shared a common finish.
Highlighting the day’s efforts was Luke Allen who took advantage of The
Screamers mostly downhill course, blistering the field in a time of
14:31. The fastest female finish of the day was also a Screamer
participant as Benzonia’s Devin Ramsey rocketed across the finish in a
time of 18:34. Overall winners in the Classic 5K run were Adrian Rios
in 17:12, and Taylor Matterelle 19:29, 5K walk Phil Sedler 33:27 and
Joan Milarch 33:46, Master winners 5K Classic Michael Garrow 19:04 and
Tina Hughes 22:42, Master winners 5K walk Phil Sedler 33:27 and Joan
Milarch 33:46. |
