Frankfort/Onekama Wrestlers
Capture
-Charlevoix Takedown
Tournament-
“Runners -Up Trophy”
Paul Morr
This past
Saturday, the Frankfort/Onekama wrestling team headed up north
to Charlevoix to participate in the Takedown Tourney. This is a
fast 3 minute round in which you score points for takedowns,
then start over and do it again. It’s a speed and agility match.
We went with 7 wrestlers and came back not only with the
“runners-up trophy, but all 7 wrestlers medaled.
The teams
consisted of Elk Rapids, Mancelona, Manton, Charlevoix,
Frankfort/Onekama, and Div2 Gaylord’s “B” team. Four wrestlers
from Frankfort, Sam Fitzhugh, Mike Cole, Tommy Johnson, and Eric
Pettig all finished with 1st place medals. Scott
Demerly on his first meet of the season took 2nd
place. Nathan Morrill took 3rd after loosing a close
decision for 2nd place. Van Amond finished the day
with a 4th place medal. It was the first time all
wrestlers medaled in a meet. Last week, all but one wrestler
received medals. In the team competition, Frankfort/Onekama fell
short of the championship. Manton took 1st with a
score of 114pts. Frankfort/Onekama scored 110pts. We were that
close again. This was the second time this year that Manton has
nipped us. We lost a close match to them earlier this year
33-30. We are very proud of our wrestlers. We come up against
teams who roster is filled. So in order for us to win a meet,
just about everyone has to win. Well this week, Pine River and
Mancelona comes to Frankfort. This will be a very tough match.
Pine River is always tough and Mancelona has a very good team
this year.
Next Saturday
will see the wrestlers heading down to Reed City. This
tournament will have 15 schools attending. We’re pretty sure RC
is a division 3, and we expect to see other division 3 schools.
It will be a very tough tourney.
