Lady Portagers started out their season traveling to Frankfort.
Tonight we shut down the Lady Panthers in three games:26-24,
25-23, 26-24. This was a huge win for our first game of

Tonight the
Lady Portagers fell to the Mesick bulldogs 15-25, 18-25, 25-21,
14-25. The Portagers struggled tonight with our serving. The
team played tough but just couldn't pull the team together for

Jan. 4 | at Bear Lake | Onekama headed over to Bear Lake to play the Lakers in the first conference game of the 2007 season and fell to them in three games. First game we lost the game 16-25, team struggled to get the ball up to the setter for the spike. Second game we lost 17-25, tonight we just didn't work together as a team, no communication on the floor. Third game we worked better together but just couldn't pull off the win and lost 23-25. We lost the
first game 17-25, we struggled with missing a lot of our serves
in the first game. Needless to say we didn't score very well in
the second game losing 13-25. In the third game we couldn't
stop a couple of their servers and lost 11-25.

Jan. 15 | Manistee Away | The Onekama Portages challenged the Manistee Chips to a volleyball match in Manistee. Onekama won the first game 25-16, and lost the next three games with very close scoring- 20-25, 23-25, 23-25. We had a lot of volleying and strong playing from both teams. We had many good attacks on the net with a few blocks but just couldn't find a win. Senior Ronnie Maidens led her team with the most points, she scored 17 with 6 aces, serving at 92%, she also had most digs-46, 2 blocks, led her team with 30 sets, and 12 tips. Sophomore Stacey Keith helped her team with 12 points, 3 aces, with 95% scoring, 44 digs, 4 spikes with one kill, 23 sets and 3 tips. Alyssa Cole and Julie Schoedel both scored 6 points each. Alyssa also had 20 digs, was the teams top attacker with 19 and 5 kills, 6 assists. Stephanie Ashworth and Chelsea Miller both added 4 points and 2 aces each. Stephanie had 27 digs, 9 spikes, 6 assists. Chelsea had 18 digs, 4 spikes with 1 kill, 3 tips and 3 assists. Marlee Herkelrath came off the bench to score 2 points, 3 digs, 3 spikes with one kill, and 4 assists. Paige Rutowski and Meghan Nesburg scored one point each. Paige had 17 digs, 4 spikes, and one assists. Meghan, once again was the teams Libero with 25 digs and 3 assists. Olivia Bolthouse helped with 3 digs, 1 spike and 1 assists. The team rallied back and forth many time with a lot of good plays but couldn't walk away with a win. We held our heads high knowing we played hard and worked together well. ~Coach Keith |

Thursday night
the Lady Portagers traveled to Baldwin to play the Lady
Panthers. The Portagers won the first three games for a win with
the scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-17. Sophomore Stacey Keith was
the team top scored with 13 points and 3 aces, 31 passes, 5
spikes with 1 kill, 12 sets, and 3 tip. Junior Kelsey Acker
helped her team with 11 points and 3 aces, was the team top
passer with 22 digs, and top setter with 15 sets, 1 tip and 7
assists. Seniors Stephanie Ashworth and Ronnie Maidens both
scored 7 point each, Stephanie had 11 passes, 7 spikes with 2
kills, 3 assists. Ronnie had 3 ace serves, 17 digs, 3 spikes,
13 sets, 2 tips and 2 assists. Sophomore Olivia Bolthouse
scored 3 point for her team with 14 passes and 5 spikes. Junior
Julie Schoedel added 2 points for her team and 3 passes. Marlee
Herkelrath, Meghan Nesburg and Paige Rutowski all scored 1 point
each, Marlee helped with 7 digs, 1 spike and 3 assists. Meghan
had 17 passes, 2 spikes with 1 kill. Paige had 14 digs with 2
spikes and 1 assists. Chelsea Miller was the Libero for her
team tonight and help out on defense. The girls all played
together as a team and had fun cheering. We face Lake shore

The Onekama
Portagers headed over to Mcc Sabers on a Saturday morning to lose
the match in four games. In the first game I think the girls were
still sleeping cause we lost 8-25. In the second game the girls
came alive and won the game 25-19, but to turn around and loose the
next two games 14-25 and 13-25. Sophomore Stacey Keith was the top
scorer for the team with 9 points and had 3 ace serves, she was also
most digs with 43 and top spiker with 12 attacks and 2 kills, 3 sets
and 1 tip. Senior Meghan Nesburg was the next top scorer with 6
points with 100% serving record, and added 27 passes for her team.
Sophomore Chelsea Miller helped with 5 points, she also served at
100%, had 12 digs, 8 spikes with 1 kill, and 3 assists. Senior
Ronnie Maidens added 4 points for her team with 2 ace serves, also a
big help with 40 digs, 2 spikes with 1 kill, had 24 sets, 2 tips
with 6 assists. Junior Kelsey Acker helped with 2 points and 1 ace
serve, 28 passes, 2 spikes with 1 kill, was the team top setter with
33 sets, 4 tips and 9 assists. Senior Marlee Herkelrath added a
point with 17 digs, 4 spikes with 1 kill and 1 assists. Junior
Alyssa Cole had 9 passes, was the teams top spiker with 12 spikes
and 4 kills, with 1 assists. Senior Stephanie Ashworth helped with
23 digs, 10 spikes with 1 kill and 1 block, 2 tips and 9 assists.
Julie Schoedel, Olivia Bolthouse and Paige Rutowski also help out

Onekama Lady
Portagers lost to the TCC Sabers tonight with the scores 14-25,
12-25, 14-25. They were a very tough team with a lot of strong
hitters that we just couldn't stop at the net. Stacey Keith and
Alyssa Cole were both top servers with 5 points each and 1 ace
serve. Stacey was the team top passer with 21 digs, 3 spikes with 2
kills and 3 assists. Alyssa had 13 digs and 2 spikes. Ronnie
Maidens and Marlee Herkelrath both scored 3 points each, with Ronnie
having 19 passes, 1 spike, 14 sets, 4 tips and 3 assists. Marlee
added 8 passes, 1 spike and 1 assists. Kelsey Acker scored 2 point
for her team with one ace serve, 17 passes, 1 block, top setter of
the night with 16 sets, 2 tips and 2 assists. Julie also scored a
point with 2 passes. Stephanie Ashworth added 16 digs, 5 spikes
with 1 kill, 1 block, 1 tip and 10 assists. Meghan Nesburg also
helped out on defense with 14 digs, 4 spikes, and 1 tip. We play
again Feb. 22 at our last home game of the season. ~Coach Keith

hosted the Walkerville team and lost in three game with the scores:

Tournament this
year was at Bear Lake so it was a short travel. Our first game in
our pool was against Pentwater where we lost 20-25, 7-25. Then we
played Walkerville and lost 18-25, 9-25. So for the semi- finals we
played Bear Lake and lost to them in four games with the scores
were: 12-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-25. Then we played Brethren for 5 & 6
place and won 5th place with the scores: 25-11, 21-25, 25-6,

Tonight we
traveled to Lakeshore for their last home volleyball game because
they are closing their door. We won the match in five game with the
scores: 25-14, 17-25, 15-25, 25-22, 15-7. Senior Ronnie Maidens
scored 13 points for her team with 10 ace serves, she also had 15
digs, 3 spikes, 1 block and 14 sets, with 4 tips. Junior Julie
Schoedel was the teams 2nd top scored with 11 points, 1 ace at 92%
serving for the night. She also had 2 digs 1 spike and 1 assists.
Stephanie Ashworth and Stacey Keith both had 7 points each.
Stephanie had 7 ace serves with 25 digs, 6 spikes with 3 kills, 1
block, 3 tips and 2 assists. Stacey also added 3 aces, was the top
passer with 28 and 8 spikes with 1 kill, 7 sets and 5 tips.
Sophomore Paige Rutowski helped with 5 points and 2 ace with 100%
serving, with 20 digs, 7 spikes for the night. Kelsey Acker added 3
points with 2 aces, 24 digs, 3 spikes and was the top setter with
24, 5 tips and 2 assists. Marlee Herkelrath, Chelsea Miller and
Alyssa Cole all scored 2 points. Marlee had 1 ace, added 17 digs, 8
spikes with 2 kills, and 3 assists. Chelsea had 2 aces, 19 passes,
1 spike, 1 tip and 5 assists. Alyssa had 1 ace serve with 17 digs,
6 spikes with 1 kill, 6 assists.
This was our last game of the

March 3 | Districts at MCE |
Districts were
held at MCE on Saturday March 3rd. We played the winners of Bear
Lake and Freesoil. And we lost to Bear Lake in Four game with the
first game scored was really close 21-25. Then we won the second
game 25-19. Lost a really close game in the third 22-25, and lost
the forth game 17-25 to send us home. It was a fun season and lots
of good times.
