Portager Boys Track Team Wins Conference Meet

“I’m very proud of the boys. The cold, rainy weather did not contribute to many personal bests for the athletes, but nonetheless it was a total team effort,” said Coach Mickey Story. “Fifteen different athletes scored for the Portagers. It was nice to see all of our freshmen score points for the team.”  Story noted that the win marks the fourth straight conference championship for the Portagers. “This speaks volumes for the work ethic and leadership of our seniors who have been involved with the program all four years - Tayler Fraly, Tim Veverica, Nick Swisher and Nick Schmoke.”

Taking first place honors in the individual events were Nick Swisher in the 1600m run (4:48.75) and Fraly in the 300m hurdles (43.7.  Bradford captured two second place positions with his jump of 5’5” in the high jump, and a throw of 124’5” in the discus. Also placing third was Fraly in the 110 hurdles in 17.64, Maddox in the 100m dash with 12.19, Schoedel in the 1600m run in 5:06.94, Maxey in the 300m hurdles in 47.35, Evans in the 800m run in 2:11.56, and Swisher in the 3200m run with his time of 11:32.79.
