Onekama's Boys and Girls Each Place 1st at WMD Jamboree in Brethren

Wednesday in girls track action your Onekama Portagers ran in the WMD Jamboree in Brethren.  The girls placed 1st in the meet scoring 186 points followed by Mason Co. Eastern 138, Brethren 99, Walkerville 51, Baldwin 15, Pentwater 10.

    It was a good win for us last night, it helps secure our goal for the conference championship.  I’m really happy with the teams performance, we are recording many personal records, and the girls are really stepping up with some performing outside their comfort zones.

Portager Boys win WMD Jamboree

The Onekama boys’ track team scored 186 points to win the WMD Jamboree held at Brethren on April 25th. Mason County Eastern (MCE) took second with 112 points, followed by the Brethren boys in third place with 103 points.

Relay teams scored first in these events...

  • 3200m (John Evans, Jaron Llewellyn, Ian Smith and Chuck Schoedel in 9:30.54),

  • 800m (Eric Maddox, Jordan Maxey, John Evans, Parker Johnson in 1:41.53),

  • 400m (Tayler Fraly, Justin Sedelmaier, Maddox and Maxey in 48.20).

  • Johnson  in the pole vault with 11’6”

  • Fraly in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.69

  • Senior Nick Swisher swept three events with his times of 4:52.92 in the 1600m run, a 2:14.69 in the 800m run, and a 10:50.89 in the 3200m run.

Second Place medal finishers included...

  • The boys’ 1600m relay team (Fraly, Sedelmaier, Nick Swisher and Evans) placed second behind MCE with a time of 3:48.97

  • Second places were recorded by Tim Veverica in the high jump (5’8”)

  • Maxey in the 300m hurdles (46.85) .

Placing third

  • Pole vault was Danny Brown (8’6”)

  • Nick Bradford was third in the discus (115’2”) and high jump (5’4”).

  • Veverica took third in the long jump (17’7”),

  • Sedelmaier’s time of 55.56 in the 400m run earned a third.

  • Fraly took 3rd in the 110m high hurdles (18.14)

  • Evans in the 800m run (2:26.49)

  • Schoedel in both the 1600m run (5:06.79) and the 3200m run (11:04.73).

Finishing fourth in the shot was...

  • Shane Traeger with 35’11”

  • Llewellyn placed fourth in the 1600m run in 5:26.34, and fifth in the 3200m run in 12:02.58 

Other top finishers included...

  • Patrick Spaulding in the 110 hurdles (5th, 18.59) and 300m hurdles (5th, 49.12)

  • Bradford in the long jump (6th, 15’0”)

  • Maddox in the 100m dash (5th, 12.16) and 200m run (5th, 25.21)

  • Ian Smith in the 800m run (6th, 2:35.71).
