Onekama's Girls take 1st and Boys take 2nd at Frostbite Invitational 2007

Friday in girls track action your Onekema Portagers ran in the Frostbite Invitational.  The girls placed 1st in the meet scoring 138 points followed by Suttons Bay 112, Marion 77, Manton 76, Brethren 51, Mesick 38, Grand Traverse Academy 27, Walkerville 8.

The key to our Victory was our Multi-event athletes…Girls stepping up and competing in 4 events.  Pulling through and racing with tired legs.  
It was a great evening for a track meet.  Our AD Duane Keith along with ALL the volunteers did a great job running a smooth meet.

The Manton boys team tallied 200 points to race away with first place in this year’s Frostbite Invitational, followed in second place by the host Portagers with 91 points. In third place was Suttons Bay with 78 points; fourth, Mesick with 63 points, followed by Brethren  (47 pts), Marion (39 pts), Walkerville (7 pts) and Grand Traverse Academy.

Individual second place finishes included Parker Johnson in the pole vault (10’6”), Nick Bradford in the high jump (5’10”), Tayler Fraly in the high hurdles (17.77) and 300m hurdles (44.61), and  Justin Sedelmaier in the 400m run (56.61). Onekama’s 3200m relay team, comprised of  John Evans, Chuck Schoedel, Jaron Llewellyn and Ian Smith              took second in 9:24.

Tim Veverica had a third place finish with his long jump of 18’3”, while Schoedel placed third in the 3200m run with a time of 11:04. The Portager boys’ 400m relay team of Fraly, Sedelmaier, Eric Maddox and Evans took third in 48.53.  Placing fourth in the long jump was Sedelmaier with 18’, while Schoedel took fourth in the 1600m run in a time of 5:04.

Bradford recorded a fifth place finish in the discus with a throw of 107’3”, while Patrick Spaulding placed fifth in the high hurdles with 18.59. Maddox took fifth in the 200m run in 25.46, and the 1600m relay team of Fraly, Sedelmaier, Maddox and Schoedel placed fifth in 4:05.

Taking sixth place was Danny Brown in the pole vault with 8’6”. Other sixth place finishers included Shane Traeger  with a 36’1” throw in the shot put; Maddox with a 12.29 in the 100m dash; Evans with an 800m run time of 2:23.49, and Llewellyn with a 3200m run time of 11:41.
