Portagers vs. Wildcats

In WMD league play on Wednesday the Onekama Portager’s softball traveled to Walkerville and split the double header with the Wildcats losing  game one 12-4
and winning game 2, 5-3.

In game one the Wildcats scored 9 unearned runs on a collection of fielding and throwing errors. “ The first game is one of those defensive games you have during a season. We had trouble fielding and making the correct throws.”. However in game 2 after giving up 2 unearned runs due to 2 costly errors in the first inning the Portagers tighted up and played solid behind pitcher Stacey Keith who did not walk a batter in game 2 and only had 2 walks in game one.

Junior Kieran O’Connor was the hitting star of the night as she went 3-3 in the second game and drove in 3 runs. “ Kieran is a gamer, a real grinder. When we really need a big hit to get us going, she came through big for us “. Freshman 2nd baseman Katie Prelipp made some outstanding plays in the field to preserve the game 2 victory. The Portagers are 5-1 in WMD league action and travel to Manistee Catholic Central for a pair of games on Friday. ~Coach Keith
