Temperatures are diving to new lows while the ski teams are heating up. While the OHS/BLgirls/BHS co-op still struggles with health issues and making up a "team" for team scores, the remaining racers
have stepped up and exhibited even more robust enthusiasm than we have witnessed before. Donny Olson has a renewed passion for the sport and he is making tremendous strides in racing technique. No
longer racing timidly, Donny will no doubt become a force to be reckoned with. Eric Somsel, who has not really even skied much before this year, has a natural talent for downhill racing. For a first year racer, Eric is placing in the top 14, among racers who have been
racing for years.
Diamond Kimple gives it her all, continuing to race nursing an injured knee. Senior Kelli Waligorski was stricken with mono along with team mate Sara. Sara will most likely not be able to return for the season
and the jury is still out on Kelli. Emily Harwell remains the leader for the girls team consistently placing in the top 10. Monika Higley is still in the running for conference rankings as well.

Benzie hosted this race which was held on Buck. Buck can be a tricky one. If racers take it for granted, they often find themselves in a heap , sliding out of control. It doesn't look as intimidating as Thor or even Loki, however, it does have its quirks that can cause problems for the un expecting racer.
Girl's slalom went well for Emily. She placed 6th in the event leading our girls with her times of :30.25 and :29.57 respectively. Monika did a nice job as well placing 11th with runs of :31.14 and :32.08. Diamond Kimple placed 22nd with consistent times of :40.33
and :40.17. Manistee's Katie Bramble won the slalom event for the girls.
Emily Harwell nailed 6th place in Giant Slalom, clocking runs of :20.90 and :21.02. Monika Higley slid into 11th place with runs of :21.70 and :21.50. Diamond Kimple placed 22nd with her efforts of :26.69 and :26.33. Once again, Manistee's Katie Bramble won the girls GS event.
Donny Olson placed 29th in Slalom today with runs of :36.13 and :34.44. Eric Somsel had the misfortune of Dq'ing and did not finish the slalom event. Benzie's Eric Baumeler, a former OHS co-op racer , won the event.
Eric Somsel placed 22nd in Giant Slalom with runs of :20.27 and :19.98 for a combined effort of :40.25. Donny Olson's first run clocked in at :24.16. Donny shaved off two full seconds on his second
run sliding in at :22.16 for a combined of :46.32 and 29th position. Manistee's Keegan Janowiak won the boy's GS event.
