L M S C Ski Meet 1-24-07
Mother Nature has started to cooperate, giving the teams the snow and cold weather they so anticipated in the beginning of the season. Now, there appears to be another force to contend with...illness and injury....The nice thing about downhill racing though, is that it is also an individual event and one that the remaining racers are still
pursuing to the fullest extent. Every year there are teams that struggle to field a team for team scores. This year it seems to have been our OHS/BHS/BL girls co-op that has been struck. The team will not be brought to a halt over this and the remaining racers have
demonstrated even more drive to achieve excellence in their sport.
Onekama hosted this event. The race went extremely fast and smooth thanks to the volunteer parents that came out to support the effort. Emily Harwell led the team with her 5th place finish in Slalom
tonight , clocking in with runs of :29.25 and :29.80. Monika with a K, Higley with one G has developed a new desire and drive to become better and posted times of :32.27 and :33.18 for 9th position. Team member, Kelli Waligorski is out with Mono for the time being and Diamond Kimpel is nursing an injured knee. The girls could not field a team for team scores in this event. Manistee's Katie Bramble won the Slalom event.

The girls went onto race Giant Slalom where Coach Matheiu stated,"This kid is giving it her all.", when speaking of Emily Harwell. Emily placed 5th in GS with her runs of :24.09 and :23.93. Monika placed 10th with :25.14 and :25.11, keeping her in contention for
Conference rankings. Diamond Kimpel placed 22nd with :33.39 and :33.78. Manistee's Katie Bramble won the girl's GS event.
Eric Somsel placed 17th in what proved to be a very tight race in the
boy's Slalom race. Eric logged in runs of  :30.94 and :29.50. CoachMathieu stated , "For a 1st year racer, he's got natural talent.", when speaking of Eric. Donny Olson keeps improving and clocked in a first run of :38.23 and a second run of :38.39 for 29th.
In Giant Slalom, Eric placed 15th with :22.59 and :22.93. Donny Olson placed 27th with :27.45 and :26.56. Donny has been making real improvements in his style this year.
