Finally! The first LMSC Race is Held January 15

After many anguishing days of postponed and rescheduled ski meets, the local teams were finally able to hold their first LMSC race of the season January 15, 2007. Benzie Central hosted this event at Crystal Mt. Emily Harwell stepped up to the task, finishing 6th in the Girls GS event with times of 23:81 and :23.71 for a combined effort of :47.52. Monika Higley looks as if she is in contention for Conference honors as well, if she continues with her racing quality this year. Monika  raced a solid race ,clocking times of :25.24 and 24.52 respectively for a combined time of :49.76 and 10th position. Kelli Waligorski was right there as well , placing 14th with times of :26.90 and :27.40 for a combined of :54.30. New team member, Diamond Kimpel did a great job, while nursing an injured knee, placing 21st with times of :34.36 and :31.63. Diamond did a super job of shaving time off on her second run.
The girls did well in Slalom as well with Monika Higley maintaining 10th position with her times of :33.29 and :33.47. Kelli Waligorski nailed 12th place with times of :33.98 and :35.68.

Emily Harwell had some problems on her second run, placing her 18th in this event, however, it should be noted that her first run clocked in at :28.46 for 3rd position. Her second run gave her some problems and a clock time of :48.88 dropping her down to 18th for this race. Diamond Kimpel's effforts of :38.02 and :39.33 placed her 19th. All in all not a bad first race for the OHS/Brethren/Bear Lake Girls team. Katie Bramble of Manistee won both of the Girl's events.
The boy's team is coming right along and Brethren's Eric Somsel racing with OHS tied for 16th with a Bellaire racer with his times of :22.09 and :22.32 in Giant Slalom. Donny Olson placed 25th with his runs of :25.56 and :25.92. No other boys for our team started this event.
In Slalom, Eric Somsel placed 19th with runs of :30.79 and :30.82 while Donny Olson placed 25th with his runs of :36.37 and :36.70. No other boys for our team started this event. Eric Baumeler Formerly a racer with our Co-op won both of the boy's events.
The schedule of races has no doubt changed and is dependant upon cold temperatures and snow. We will keep you updated as the races are held.

Gwen
