Maybe the Ski teams have wished a tad too hard
for cold and snow conditions. With Temperatures dipping to zero with
wind chills well below zero , one would think it has now become too
cold to snow. Snow
it has, with many schools shutting down for the day. Benzie still went on with their Invitational and quite a turn out they had, with 12 schools attending. Still battling illness and injuries, OHS/BL (girls)/BHS sent individuals only. Onekama's Donny Olson placed 41st with his runs of :33.69 and :35.07 in Slalom. There were 67 boys in this event representing schools which included Elk Rapids, Bellaire, Manistee, Roscommon, Mt. Pleasant, Inland Lakes, Grayling, Saginaw Heritage, Clare, Benzie, Onekama. Eric Somsel did not compete in today's events. Donny went on to place 43rd in Giant Slalom against the same boys with a first run of :24.71 . Donny shaved some time off his second run, sliding in with :24.26. Great job!, Donny!. I do not have the stats for team results of this invitational. |
Fifty
four racers from 11 schools competed in the girl's events. Manistee's
Katie Bramble won the slalom event. Benzie handed out hardware to the
top 15 racers so there was plenty to go around . Emily Harwell reached
out and earned one for herself placing 11th in this event. Emily logged
in :30.18 and :30.57 for her combined time of 1:00.75. Monika Higley
placed 21st out of those 54 racers with her runs of :32.96 and :34.03.
Diamond Kimpel also had a good race, placing 39th with her times of
:41.31 and :41.37. Great race ladies! Emily snagged another medal with her 13th place finish in Giant Slalom. Emily's times were :22.16 and :22.83 respectively. Monika placed 28th with :23.30 and :24.34 while Diamond nailed 44th with :28.90 and :29.61. Once again, Manistee's Katie Bramble won the GS event. The team did not participate in the Manistee Invitational due to extreme cold temperatures and white out conditions. Great racing team. Good Luck at Schuss! Gwen |
