Portagers Bring Home 4 Medals
Total! Cold , windy with some sun and warmth thrown in occasionally, was what Mother Nature brewed up for the Conference Finals today at the Manistee National Golf Course. She decided to turn off the occasional warmth and brew up more wind as the players neared the end of the front 9 ,and continued her fury on the back 9. I've said it before though, "We are the Portagers!", and our team played on doing what Coach Zadow had asked of them before the start of the match. "Make Brethren/Bear Lake earn it and beat Custer solidly". Medals were awarded to the 10 lowest scorers today. Medaling was Levi Capper, who shot a 77 today, to tie for Overall Match Medalist with Brethren/Bear Lake's Cory Brown. Levi was our team lowman as well, shooting 38 on the front 9 and 39 strokes on the back 9. Jordan Pomeroy shot 42 strokes on the front 9 and 44 on the back 9 for a final 18 hole round of 86, earning himself a medal. Drew Griswold, shooting with a possible broken finger, shot 49 strokes on the front 9. He shot an incredible recovery round on the back nine of 40 strokes for a final score of 89 to also finish in the medals. Jake Matthews brought some hardware home as well shooting 46 on the front 9 and 45 on the back for a score of 91 for the 18 hole match. These four were the scoring four who brought in the team effort of 343 for OHS today.. Shooting , but no factor in the score was Tim Veverica with 99. Tim shot 54 on the front 9. Pulling it back around in his favor, he shot 45 on the back 9. Parker Johnson shot 102. Onekama earned four medals, Brethren/Bear Lake took home 5, with Custer grabbing up one medal.
