Drew
Griswold Shoots One Over Par for Match Medalist & OHS "A" Team Brings
Home A Plaque!
Drew Griswold shot a one
over par score of 36 to be the match medalist for the 9 hole
seven team match held on the East Course of Lakeside Links. |
While the team didn't really get a lot of rain during the match, It
stayed dark and dreary throughout the event. It took extra effort to
make the balls fly in the heavy , damp air. Wetness on the greens made
putting an extra chore, but ,"we are the Portager's!"
The events were held at Lakeside Links. The first match was held on
the east course, where Sophomore Drew Griswold and Freshman Jake
Matthews each produced personal bests. Drew finished one over par for a
36 to become the Match Medalist. Jake carded a 42, Jordan Pomeroy
brought in a 45 and Levi handed in a 46 for a team effort of 169. Also
shooting , but no factor in the score were Zac with 49 and Parker with
50.

Onekama High 06-07 |
Brethren/Bear Lake's scoring team members turned in two 39's and two
41's today , to over take OHS by 9 strokes less. Final team scores for
all teams are as follows:
160 Brethren/Bear Lake
169 Onekama
170 Custer
190 Freesoil
210 Walkerville
230 Baldwin
Onekama is standing at 2nd place in the Conference behind Brethren/BearLake
(who is 10-0) ,after today's match, with an 8-2 record in the
Conference. Overall , the OHS Golfers, earned an 11-3 record to date.
The Portagers get one more shot at giving Brethren/Bear Lake their first
loss of the season, when they meet up at the Manistee National course
next Tuesday.The
scramble was held on the West Course with each school bringing 2 teams
of three men each. The Portager's A flight was Jordan Pomeroy, Parker
Johnson and Levi Capper. The Team finished at 4 under, tied with Custer.
When this happens, the officials go to a scorecard
tie breaker. They do this by looking back at the hardest par hole and
seeing which team completed it with the lowest score. If each team is
still tied, they keep looking forward. Onekama's A team won the A flight
scramble on the 3rd handicap hole with a Birdie to Custer's par, and the
Plaque was awarded to OHS. Look for it in the trophy case at school!
Onekama's B Flight consisted of Drew Griswold, Jake Matthews and Zac
Gilbert who finished 3 strokes behind Custer. Custer won this flight.
Scrambles are a great way to break away and have some fun while still
competing. The team members shoot from the best ball played giving some
fun ,low scores to card. If a player is struggling in an area such as
putting, chipping or driving that day, he may be able to shrug it off,
knowing that he will still be shooting from the best ball. A lot of
stress is gone over one's play that day and may even produce phenomenal
shooting from all members.
It's not over till it's over folks...This is clearly a year for
Onekama and Brethren/Bear Lake to shoot it out to the end.... There is
tremendous talent and skill on both teams. Congratulate your Golf team
when you see them OHS!, For they are doing superb!
Whistles and Hugs Team! You make OHS proud! Now, go dry off your clubs
and get ready for the next match.....
