Tonight's 61-28
victory over Bear Lake was a whole team effort and puts the Portagers at 3-1 in the league and 3-4 overall. September 21, 2006 |
What a great night of
basketball. The atmosphere couldn't have been better. The spirit
in Onekama gymnasium was amazing as we played our cross town rival
thanks to cheerleaders, parents, students, teachers, and our
Future
Stars who played in a special halftime exhibition game.
Tonight's 61-28 victory
over Bear Lake was a whole team effort and puts the Portagers at 3-1
in the league and 3-4 overall. Our goal was to come out playing 4
quarters of smart basketball. We accomplished that goal by crashing
the boards, moving our feet on defense, and being patient on
offense. Marlee Herkelrath, before going down with an ankle injury,
was playing the game of her career. She lead the team with 21
points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.

Four other players put
up some large numbers helping to keep the game rolling. Ronnie
Maidens had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Stephanie Ashworth was on
fire playing strong inside chipping in 9 points and pulling down 11
boards. Kieran O'Connor and Kelsey Acker each knocked down 8 points
while taking turns stealing the ball to finish with 11
combined steals. Kieran lead our team in skin points with 25 as
Kelsey and Chelsea tied for 2nd right behind her with 17. Our bench
was able to see a lot of time tonight and did a great job creating
on both ends of the floor.
Thanks again to those who participated in
tonight's fun and excited game. Your support and spirit is always
appreciated.
