Portagers Win Victory Over M.C.E. in a Double Overtime |
The Onekama
varsity girls' basketball team gets its 1st victory in a double
overtime battle of guts, attitude, and heart at Mason County
Eastern. What a battle it was from beginning to end with both teams
not settling or backing down. Two times, buzzer beaters and buzzer
attempts sent the teams back to face off for another round. It was
leadership from veteran players combined with key role playing from
the bench that allowed the Portagers to win 48-41and be in a three
way tie for 1st place in the Conference. Ronnie Maidens played a
phenomenal game finishing with 20 points, 3 steals, 3 assists, 6
rebounds, and 47 skin points.

Stephanie Ashworth and Marlee Herkelrath
cleaned up the boards with 20 combined rebounds. Marlee's presence
on the floor was key to our offense and defense. Stephanie had 9
points most of which came down the stretch from the free throw
line. Alyssa Cole hit two big time 3-point baskets to compliment her 3
steals. Kelsey Acker showed much confidence and poise throughout
the overtimes finishing with 2nd highest team skin points, 6 points most
of which came from the stripe, 3 steal, and 2 assists. Coach Turk |
