Dec. 14 Frankfort at home. The Lady Portagers lost their first game of the year to the Frankfort Panthers 25-8/ 25-15/ 21/25 and 25/23. Amber Maidens lead the team with 18 points, Veronica Maidens led in tips with 15 and chipped in with 14 points, Ginny Ashworth led the team with 24 sets and had 5 points, Chelsea Bromley added 7 points, Stephanie Asworth and Stacey Keith made their varsity debut with Steph pounding 11 big spikes and 7 points with Stacey scoring 6 points and played a very solid back line.....the Ladys visit Mesick Monday night.
Dec. 19 at Mesick In varsity action the Portagers were defeated by Mesick in 4 hardfought games...17-25, 25-23, 21-25 &18-25. The scrappy Lady's were led by Amber Maidens with 16 service points, 4 assists and a 100% serving mark. Stacey Keith led all setters with 42 sets, 6 points, 7 big spikes and also a 100% serving mark. Chelsea Bromley led a strong back line with 8 assists and six spikes. Ginny Ashworth had a solid game with 29 sets, 7 hammer spikes and 1 point scoring stuff. Veronica Maidens showed her floor leadership with 7 big spikes, and a solid overall game. Alyssa Cole was solid on the front line adding a block. Stephanie Ashworth came through with 4 spikes. Kelsey Acker added 6 assists and Kayla Pesko dug out a pair of assists from the back line. All the games had long rallys and the girls should be very proud of their performance.  Photographs
Jan. 4 at Bear Lake The Lady Portagers were defeated in a non league matchup against Bear Lake 18-25, 23-25, and 16-25. Amber Maidens was top scorer with 7 service points, 1 ace and 18 digs. Stacey Keith led the team with 32 passes , chipped in with 6 points, 21 sets, and 2 tips. Megan Nesburg had a real strong game with 15 spikes and led the team with 5 spikes. Veronica Maidens had 3 points, 19 passes, 7 assists and 3 tips. Chelsea Bromley added 18 passes and 3 spikes. Alyssa Cole had 10 passes, 3 spikes a pair of assists and 3 tips. Jan 12 Pentwater at home Tonight, Thursday 12th, Onekama played the Pentwater falcon at home and lost with the scores 17-25, 16-25, 18-25.  The falcon put up some hard hit at the net with the Portagers having a tough time digging the ball out of the back row.  Lady Portagers struggled a little with servers.  The Portagers never gave up and kept fighting for the sideout.  Onekama was up in the third game but let it get away with the falcons spiking on the net.  For the Portagers, Ginny Ashworth was the team top server with 7pts., she had 14 digs, 15 sets and one tip.  Veronica Maidens was right behind her with 6pts., 13 digs, 3 spikes and 12 sets and 3 ace tips.  Amber Maidens scored 4pts to help out her team and 18 digs, one block and 2 assists.  Stacey Keith also scored 4pts., 12 digs and 8 sets, one spike.  Stephanie Ashworth helped out 2pts., 10 digs and 5 spikes and 3 assists.  Chelsea Bromley also had 2 pts and was the team's best defensive player with 22 digs, 2 spikes and 1 assists. Meghan Nesburg also help the Portagers with 1pt., very strong in the back row with 19 digs, 3 spikes. Kelsey Acker, Kayla Pesko and Alyssa Cole came off the bench to help the team.  Kelsey Acker having 7digs, Alyssa and Kayla having 4 digs each.  The portagers put up a good fight but the falcon are always tough on the net and I knew going into tonight's game we would have to play great defense and block everything. Lady Portagers put up some good spides but just couldn't get it done. The Portagers play against Manistee Monday 16th at home.
Jan 16 Manistee at home Photographs Monday 16th Onekama Lady Portagers losed in four games to the Manistee Chippewas.  The Portagers won the first game, 25-22, but then slid into a funk and lost the second game, 16-25.  Although the Portagers played tougher in the third game, they couldn't gain the advantage and were defeated 22-25.  Game four was also close, but again the Portagers failed to get on a run that would have meant the difference and lost a 20-25 game that ended the match.  Stacey Keith was the teams top server with 9 pts, She also had the most digs with 62, 3 spikes and 18 sets.  Meghan Nesburg finished with 6pts, 38 digs, 6 spikes and 2 assists.  Veronica Maidens also had 6 pts, was the team's top setter with 42, had 43 digs, 11 spikes and one block for an ace.  Amber Maidens contributed 5 pts, 57 digs, and had a great night at the net and one assist.  Kayla Pesko, Alyssa Cole and Chelsea Bromley all scored 4pts.  Chelsea also had 30 digs 12 spikes, 6 assists and one block.  Alyssa had 15 digs, 6 spikes and one assists.  Kayla had 8 digs in the back row.  Kelsey Acker scored 2 pts, had 16 digs, seven spikes and 4 assists.  As you can see by the number of passes in the games, there were really long volleys, lots of great plays.  But we just couldn't pull out a win.  We play again Thursday 19th at MCE. ...Lanette Keith
Jan 19 at MCE Photographs Onekama Portagers were in Custer tonight and played MCE.  The Lady Portagers lost to the cardinals in three games. In game one, we started out slow but then got it going but just couldn't put it away.  We really struggle with our serves and defense, with the score 16-25.  Lost the second game 7-25 with just everything going wrong.  The third game ended the match 15-25.  Amber Maidens was the teams top server with 7pts.  Chelsea Bromely and Stacey Keith had 100% serves record.  Stacey Keith was the team top defensive player with 35 passes.  Amber Maidens was hitter tonight with 9 spikes and Alyssa Cole with 7 spikes.  Veronica Maidens was strong on the net with 7 blocks and was the teams top setter with 22 and Stacey Keith with 19 sets, Ginny Ashworth with 18.  The team just couldn't put anything together tonight, Our serving and defense really held us back.  The Portagers play again thursday at Walkerville. ..Lanette Keith
Jan 26 at Walkerville Last Night Onekama Lady Portagers played the wildcats at Walkerville.  The first game we lost 15-25.  The second game we won 25-19, Third game we lost focus and gave the game away 12-25.  Same happened in the fourth game 12-25.  Walkerville has some powerful serves that the girls struggled with.  Veronica Maidens was the teams top server with 8 pts, and the top passer with 39, 2 spikes, 2 blocks and 31 sets and 5 tips.  Stacey Keith scored 6pts for the team and 26 digs, 4 spikes and 5 assists.  Meghan Nesburg scored 5pts, 14 digs, 5 spikes and 2 assists.  Ginny Ashworth had 3 pts, 28 passes and was the teams top setter with 41, 1 tip and 1 spike.  Amber Maidens scored 3pts, 16 passes, 14 spikes.  Alyssa Cole and Kelsey Acker both scored 2pts, both with 9 passes.  Alyssa Cole was the team top spiker with 15.  Kayla Pesko Helped the team with 4 passes and 1 spike.  Chelsea Bromley was the teams Libero in last night game with 25 passes and 1 spike and 4 assists.  The team really hustle and played well together, talking on the floor and calling the ball.  Alyssa Cole really came alive on the floor last night with 15 very powerful spikes and strong serving.  Many players are really comming around and the team is really starting to mesh.  Monday we host Lakeshore Academy. ...Lanette Keith (pictures may be coming if Coach can find the Share folder!)
Jan. 30 Lakeshore Public at Home Photos Tonight the Lady Portagers hosted Lakeshore Academy and struggles as a team to pull off a win.  We ended up playing 5 games again tonight and losing the Match in the fifth game. The Portagers won the first game 25-12, then lost the second game 19-25.  Then the third game we also lost 21-25, and worked together and won the fourth game 25-14.  The fifth game ended the match for the loss with the score 8-15.  The portagers top scored was Alyssa Cole with 12pts, 2 ace serves and 13 digs, 12 spikes with 1 ace and 2 blocks and 4 assists.  Ginny Ashworth was the next high scorer with 9 pts, 32 passes, 3 spikes with 1 ace, 1 block and 39 sets and 2 tips.  Veronica Maidens scored 8 pts for the portagers and had 1 ace serve, 33 passes and 11 spikes with 1 ace spike and 3 tips and she had 46 sets.  Stacey Keith also scored 7 pts, with 1 ace serve and 27 passes, with 3 spikes, 3 tips and was the team top setter with 49 sets.  Chelsea Bromley also added 3 pts for her team with 1 ace serve and was the teams top defensive player with 62 passes and was also the teams top spiker with 24 spikes and 2 ace spikes, and 10 assists.  Kayla Pesko also scored 3 pts and had 10 passes, with 2 spikes.  Meghan Nesburg helped the team with 3 pts, 17 digs and 9 spikes, one tip and 1 assists.  Kelsey Acker scored 3pts, 23 passes and 5 spikes with 2 aces, she also had 4 tips and 23 sets.  Amber Maidens also scored 3 pts tonight with 2 ace serves, 25 passes and 9 spikes with 2 aces, and 2 assists.

Middle School Practice Begins

Feb. 01 Manistee Chipewas at Manistee Onekama Varsity Volleyball played the Manistee Chippewas away and lost. The team ended up playing another match with five games with the scores in the first game that we won was 25-22, in the second game we also won 27-25, then we lost the third game 20-25 and in the fourth game we just couldn't get it together and lost 13-25.  In the fifth game we just lost with the score 13-15.   For the Lady Portagers, Veronica Maidens was the team top server with 13 pts., two ace serves, team top defensive player with 46 passes, 10 spikes and 26 sets, with 4 tips. Meghan Nesburg scored 11pts and had 1 ace serve and added 19 digs with 4 spikes.   Amber Maidens added 9pts for her team, 2 ace serves, 32 passes and 9 spikes. Alyssa Cole scored 8 pts for the portagers, with 3 ace serves and 13 digs with 6 spikes and 5 assists.  Ginny Ashworth also scored 7pts, with 26 passes and 15 spikes with 2 ace spikes and 2 blocks and also had 20 sets, with 3 tips.  Chelsea Bromley helped her team with 5 serves pts and 1 ace serve, she also had 41 passes and was the teams top spiker with 28, 4 assista and 2 tips.  Stacey Keith also scored 5 pts. for the team and added 39 passes, 5 spikes and was the teams top setter with 48 sets.  Kelsey Acker scored 3 pts and 2 ace serves and had 11 passes with 7 spikes and 1assist.  Kayla Pesko also helped on defense.  
Feb. 02 Brethren at home Tonight the Onekama Portager hosted the Brethren Bobcats.  The Lady Portager came out and won the first two games scoring 25-22, 27-25.  In the third game the Portager lost their momentum and lost the game 20-25.  In the fourth game the portagers just couldn't get it together and lost 13-25.  So once again for the third match of the week the Portagers went to the game #5, and lost 13-15.  The Portagers start off hard and play as a team but lose their focus and just couldn't get it back.  The girls worked really hard and we had some very long volleys.  Stacey Keith was the team's top server with 15 pts, 41 passes, 2 spikes and 11 sets.  Kelsey Acker added 8 pts., 7 digs,  6 spikes, 4 assists and 3 tips.  Alyssa Cole and Veronica Maidens both scored 6 pts. each.  Veronica was the teams top setter with 34 sets, 42 passes and 9 tips.  Chelsea Bromley also had 42 passes and was the teams top spiker with 11 and 3 assists.  Ginny Ashworth had teams top passes with 46, 7 spikes and 28 sets.  Meghan Nesburg added 23 digs and 3 pts.  Amber Maidens also added 5 pts, 9 passes and 7 spikes. 
Feb. 09 Bear Lake at Home Tonight the Portager took a hard loss after coming of the last three matches loss going to five games each, and give the Bear Lake Laker A win tonight in a five game match.  The portager took the first game 25-22.  Then turned around and won the second game 25-20.  Then we come to the third game where we miss our serves and nothing works.  The Portagers lost the fourth game 15-25.  In the final and fifth game the girls we getting down on themselves and just couldn't get the team to work together.  Stacey Keith was the portager top scorer with 13pts., 38 digs, 3 spikes and 19 sets.  Amber Maidens contributed 9pts, 14 passes and 4 spikes and added 6 assists.  Kelsey Acker helped out her team with 8 pts, 24 passes, 2 spikes, 1 block and 8 assists.  Veronica Maidens scored 7pts., 29 passes, 6 spikes and 30 sets.  Alyssa Cole help her team out with 6pts., 7 passes, 9 spikes, 1 block and 4 assists.  Ginny Ashworth had 3pts. 29 digs, 5 spikes and was the teams top setter with 52 sets.  Stephanie Ashworth also scored 3 pts, 8 passes, 2 spikes, and 3 assists.  Meghan Nesburg was the team top spiker with 11 and also had 27 passes and 3 assists.  Kayla Pesko helped with 6 passes and 1 spike.  The team really struggled in the last three game to pull off a win but our serving hurt us tonight.  photos of the game

And we also celebrated Chelsea Bromley for 9 & 10 Scholar athlete of the week and she was also nominated and won Athletic Boosters Semester Scholar Athlete.

Feb. 13 at TCC Feb. 13 we headed to TCC and lost the first game 17-25.  Then we turned around and struggled with the second game and lost 13-25.  In the third game we pull off a win 25-23.  Then lost the fourth game 17-25.  Stephanie Ashworth was the team top scorer with 12 pts, 2 aces, she was second highest in digs with 35, 8 spikes and 9 assists.  Stacey Keith scored 4 pts, had 32 digs, 3 spikes, one block, 28 sets and 2 tips.  Kelsey Acker also scored 4 pts, 1 ace, 30 passes and 4 spikes, with 23 sets.  Amber Maidens also help her team with 4 pts, 29 passes, 7spikes with one ace and one block, 7 assists.  Meghan Nesburg added 3 pts, 31 digs, 5 spikes and 6 assists.  Alyssa Cole scored 2 pts, 10 digs, 1 spike, 1 block, 3 assists and 2 tips.  Kayla Pesko scored 2 pts, 1 ace, 10 passes, 2 spikes and 2 assists.  Veronica Maidens scored 1 pts, 1 ace, was the teams top passer with 37 digs, 4 spikes, and was also the teams top setter with 35 sets.  The team was missing two seniors and just didn't play well together.  We struggled with serves and play girls in different places.

Saturday, Feb. 25 at MCE Saturday, Feb. 25, in WMD League Tournament, At MCE.  Onekama defeated Baldwin 25-16, 25-12.  We lost to Walkerville 18-25, 23-25.  We also lost our third pool play game to MCE 15-25, 13-25.  In the semi-finals we defeated Brethren 23-25, 25-21, 15-8.  We won fifth place in the final standing of the tournament.
Saturday, March 11 at MCC Onekama Portagers played the Sabers at MCC.  The Portagers lost the first game 22-25.  The second game we also lost 21-25.  We turned it around and won the third game 25-13.  And we won the fourth game 25-23.  Then we let the fifth game get away from us 7-15.  Stacey Keith lead the team in pts with 15 and 4 ace, serving at 100%, she had 42 digs, 7 spikes, top setter with 35 sets, and 3 tips.  Amber Maidens was the second top scorer with 11 pts, 6 aces, she also had 26 digs and 14 spikes and 2 block on the net with 11 assists.  Alyssa Cole helped the team out by scoring 7pts, 1 ace, 17 digs, 18 spikes, 4 assists, and 13 tips.  Kelsey Acker also Scored 7pts, with 2 aces, 35 digs, 10 spikes, 32 sets and 1 tip.  Stephanie Ashworth also scored 6pts, with one ace, 12 digs, 13 spikes, 2 blocks and 6 assists.  Chelsea Bromley also served at 100% scoring 4 pts, 35 digs and 19 spikes, 1 assists.  Ginny Ashworth was also team scorer with 3pts, with 2 aces, 27 digs, 7 spikes and 1 block, 30 sets and 6 assists.  Meghan Nesburg served 100% with 2pts, 31 passes, 6 spikes 7 assists.  Veronica Maidens scored 2pts, with 1 ace, 27 digs, 3 spikes, 2 tip, and 9 sets.  Kayla Pesko also helped the Portagers out with 2 pts, one ace, 6 digs, and 3 assists.
