OHS/BL/Brethren Girls take 2nd place overall in the LMSC meet January 13th at Crystal Mountain
There is some fun, yet competitive racing going on amongst the members of the girls team which is appearing to be beneficial for the team as a whole. Their Competitive spirit is sparking some faster racing and tonight it resulted in a super finish for the team .

In the girl's slalom event , Dani Olson led the team to a second place finish as a team with her 4th place finish. Dani's times were:29.71 and :29.93 respectively. Helping to secure that standing was team mate Emily Harwell of Brethren with her 6th place and times of :30.38 and :29.66. Monika Higley nailed 10th with :32.72 on her first run and :32.38 for her second run. Kelli Waligorski wrapped up 11th place with times of :32.21 and :33.06 giving the team 31 pts for the event and second place.

  • 5th Benzie      70 pts.

When speaking with Coach Mathieu tonight after the races, he pointed out that the boys are coming right along and if there hadn't have been a couple of the bobbles/DNF's naturally the team standings would have been higher. It's always a tough swallow to take those points you don't want. Freshman Donny Olson has gone from snowplowing to carving, Jessie Ketchum and Garret Samsal are right on top of it. BJ is also improving. Coach Mathieu will continue to fine tune and tweak the teams.

***How are we doing Coach Miller? Like what you see so far? We know you are missing every minute of it and we are missing you! It's nice to know that you are still watching from afar!***********

Thanks you,

Coach Curt Mathieu

The OHS/Brethren boy's team placed 5th as a team in Giant Slalom with 83 points. Jesse Ketchum led the team effort with his 8th place finish and times of :20.57 and and 21:07. Garret Samsal placed 18th with :22.86 and :22.42, Donny Olson carved his way to a 26th place with times of :29.21 and :27.78. BJ Bobbins had a first run of :23.83, but DNF'd his second run.

Boy's team GS:

  • 1st Bellaire  28 pts
  • 2nd Benzie  33pts
  • 3rd Manistee 35 pts
  • 4th MCGL     66 pts
  • 5th Onekama 83 pts

Placing 5th as a team in Slalom with 80 points the boy's nailed 14th, 15th, 22nd and 29th places. Jesse Ketchum led the team with his times of :29.48 and :27.82 and 14th. Garret Samsal had runs of :28.93 and :28.66 for 15th and BJ Bobbins placed 22nd with :32.29 and :34.06. Freshman Donny Olson finished 29th with :39.27 and :39.37.

Boy's team Slalom:

  • 1st Bellaire  23 pts
  • 2nd Benzie  29 pts
  • 3rd Manistee 43 pts
  • 4th MCGL     69 pts
  • 5th Onekama 80 pts.

To clear up some confusion as to why there is no BL in the boy's name, quite simply, the co-op has once again changed for this year. The Bear Lake boys are co-oping with Manistee, however , the Bear Lake girls remain with Onekama.

^   Dani shows excellent form as she makes her way down the GS course.

<--  All races are started off with forerunners. Kaylie Mathieu on the right in the start shack prepares for her forerun.
<--  Dani has this pole bent right over as she eyes up the next turn on the slalom course!
<-- Freshman Donny Olson has gone from snowplowing to carving in just a few race lessons!
<-- Emily has overcome her timidness and is now a force to be reckoned with on course!

Dani flies past Dawn with great speed on the slalom course. -->

<--Kaylie shows that beautiful tuck as she comes through the timing gates. While we did not get her time to report, one can see she must have posted a fantastic time. Once you have racing in your blood it never leaves.

<-- Monika takes on the slalom course and nailed 10th with :32.72 on her first run and :32.38 for her second run!
