OHS's 4th place finish today on the front 9 on Canthooke Valley puts them in a tie for 3rd in the WMD.

Team placings are as follows: 1st MCE with 176, 2nd Brethren/BL 180, 3rd Freesoil 185, 4th OHS 191 and Walkerville 5th with 200.

Levi Capper was OHS's lowman today with his 44, Jordan Pomeroy shot a 46, Todd Lyman 50 and Parker Johnson 51 to round out the scoring four. Josh Briggs also carded a 51 and Tim Veverica turned in a 53.

As the teams came in from their last hole on the front 9, they were sent out on the back 9 in a scramble format. OHS's first group, or the A team, consisted of Jordan Pomeroy, Levi Capper and Parker Johnson. At the completion of the 13th hole, they were standing good with Par. They went one over on the 14th hole, made par on a par 5 hole (15th, Bogied the 16th then almost made Birdie on the 17th. The A team made par though after the ball went a 1/2 centimeter to the right..*sigh* On the 18th which is a par 4, and shooting over water, they had Parker drive one onto the fairway safely. Jordan and Levi then gave it their all as they tried to go over the length of water to put a ball closer and try to close the gap between them and Brethren/BL. One of those balls only needed another foot to make it safely over. That done, they shot from Parkers ball that was securely on the fairway. They ended with 3 over par for the scramble. Team B for OHS was Todd Lyman, Josh Briggs and Tim Veverica who finished 4 0ver. I drove in circles looking for this group to no avail. At one point I was hit with another ball...first one happened on the front 9....and I decided I would catch up with them at another match.

While there were some complaints about the wind today, it was nothing compared to what our team golfed in the other day. The clouds cleared and it was a gorgeous day.

If I copied this correctly from Coach Zadows records, these are the current standings for the Schools in the Conference listed alphabetically.

  • Baldwin 1-9
  • Brethren/BL 9-1
  • Freesoil 5-5
  • MCE 9-1
  • OHS 5-5
  • Walkerville 1-9

Next up is a head to head with MCE at the Heathlands, Thursday the 22nd. Hope to see you there!

Manistee National's golf Pro, Ian, explains the rules of play on their courses

The players warmed up their putts before the start of the match.

The coaches from all the schools also participated in the scramble today and Coach Zadow's group finished one under par. Coach Zadow had left her clubs at home, not realizing that today was the day that they would play too. She shared another coaches clubs and said it wasn't the same as her own, but she did all right.

After coaching a match, playing in a scramble, tallying all those scores, she still found the time at days end to work with our team members on their chipping before they left Manistee National. Once she got home, she called and updated some scores with me. What a coach!

It should also be noted that today during the scramble there were 3 players who were flirting with 300 plus drives on a certain hole. The first one was a Brethren player, but then Jordan Pomeroy of OHS walloped one past his for the longest drive title. Another Brethren player came after Jordan and drove one a tad further. Outstanding drives. Congratulations Jordan on that drive!

This is my favorite photo of the day! Parker watches as Levi shoots towards the green. He quickly repaired his divot and waited for Jordan to take his shot.

I caught Todd on his upswing during his drive off the 4th.

Above the A team for the scramble was Jordan, Levi and Parker. Boys...the other group shots I took of you are on the CD I sent to Coach Zadow. I'm sure she will let you look at them *grin* *smirk*.
--->Parker tees off for the 8th hole.

Our team listens as the course manager and other coaches also speak.

Todd and his playing partner from another school make their trek across the bridge to continue playing out the 3rd.

Parker reads the line well and sends the ball up, over and down to the hole. It's fun to watch how the balls travel to the holes.

Parker watches his approach shot land above the hole on the 1st green.

Cute bears greeted us at each hole.

Todd has a beautiful drive off the 3rd tee, sending it straight down the fairway.

Parker studies the green to assure he makes the putt on the 7th hole.

Parker stops at the mailbox on the 2nd hole to pick up a scorecard. These cards had pictures of each hole so they knew how many par, etc were involved without second-guessing it.

Jordan as a rule doesn't like his photo taken during a match, but for the scramble he gave me the ok.

Todd redeems himself nicely here on the 6th with a par on a par 3. He did this after a disappointing 10 strokes on the 5th hole. Way to shake it off Todd! Good job!

Driving ahead, I caught Tim Veverica putting out the next hole.

Jordan makes his bid for closest to the hole. Remember, during a scramble they play from where the closest ball lays.

Jordan and Levi smirk as Levi's putt rolls to the edge of the hole ....and stops!

Parker and Levi study why this ball won't go in!

Levi chips nicely onto the green.

Jordan and Levi watch as Parker putts for Bogey.

Levi and Jordan watch as Parker puts his drive safely over the water on the fairway on the last hole.

Levi and Parker study that line hard this time. So far they are Par for the scramble. Brethren/BearLake had just told them that they are 2 under after the 13th hole.
