The Portagers secured 2 wins today during a WMD League Match at Lakeside Links south of Ludington, beating out Baldwin and Freesoil.

This reporter is stretching her fingers and dusting off the keyboard in preparation of what appears to be a great season for our Portager Golf team. With just a few practice days in, the team headed off for their first match of the season. Jordan Pomeroy, Todd Lyman, Tim Veverica are back on the roster. Josh Cebula will be joining up with the team once again next week. Last year's manager, Drew Griswold is now a scoring factor for the team as a Freshman. The team welcomes Parker Johnson, Josh Briggs and Levi Capper. Levi is coming right along with his game, but not yet tested in competition.

The Portagers logged in their first win of the season against Baldwin with a score of OHS 218 to Baldwin's 271 on the Front 9, South Course at Lakeside Links. Lowman for Baldwin was Donte Ibey with his 57. Jordan Pomeroy shot a 48 to be the Portager's lowman in this match. On the 2nd 9, West Course, the Portager's secured their 2nd win for the day and season against Freesoil who shot a team total of 203 to the Portager's 191. Freesoil's Lowman was Brad Rybicki with a 45, but it wasn't enough to over take the Portagers. Jordan once again the Portager's Lowman shot a 44, Todd Lyman a 47, Parker 48, Josh Briggs 52, Drew Griswold 52. Only one of the 52's was used for factoring in of the scoring four. Tim Veverica shot a 56.

After the first match of the season, the Portagers stand 2-0 in the WMD Conference. They are tied with Brethren/BearLake who also won both of their matches today. While most coaches don't like to predict seasons, Coach Zadow did say that so far it appears that last year's Conference Champs

Brethren/BearLake will be the team to beat again this year and Custer once again will be a tough one. She warned that she feels Freesoil is going to be the "sleeper" team that all teams should be wary of and on top of their game when playing against them. The Portager's are off to Grand Traverse Resort this Thursday. The match starts promptly at 8 am. You may brush up on your golf terms on last year's golf site if you wish....it looks to be a good season again this year! GO PORTAGERS! Congratulations, Coach Zadow and Team Members! WOW!
