Benzie Invitational Cross Country Meet

Which started out as a damp morning turned into a partly sunny morning before all the runners finished. In the Boys race, which included Division 3 and 4 schools, there were 14 teams and 95 total runners. The Bear Lake/Onekama Boys took 1st place and the trophy with 54 points beating last year state champs Hesperia whom beat Bear Lake/Onekama last year at the state finals by one point. 2nd place was Hesperia with 82 points. Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart was 3rd with 151 pts. 4th was Traverse City St. Francis with 152 pts. and Conference foes Brethren finished 6th with 188 pts. and MCE was 9th with 208 pts.

Our Bear Lake /Onekama Varsity Girls in Division 3 and 4th finished in 12th out of 13th teams with 273 points. First was won by East Jordan with 71 pts as they won the Tie breaker with Big Rapids Cross Academy as they also had 71 pts. Traverse City St. Francis was 3rd with 84 pts and Conference foe MCE was 10th with 239 pts. Brethren only had one girl that ran. There were a total of 101 girls for this race.

Next Wednesday August 31st at Manton about 4:00 p.m. this is a split meet were 9th & 10th grade run together and then 11th & 12th grade run together and take the 2 best times from each group and then third fastest time from either group to get your winner as boys and girls times are separate from one another and a winner for both boys and girls so come and support the runners. Plus this will be the first meet of the season for some Middle School runners
