Varsity Boys Basketball Mentoring
Program
Mentor Night January 24, 2006 |
The mentoring service is an extension of the varsity boys basketball "Sportsmanship" program. At the beginning of the season all the second, third and fourth grade boys in our elementary were randomly assigned a varsity basketball mentor. These guys were able to meet each other and have had various opportunities to interact both in the hallways at school and at home basketball games. These mentees have helped their mentors by helping to form cheer tunnels, join in motivational pre-game huddles and meet with players after games to talk. The mentors have helped the boys with their game of basketball. More importantly, the mentors and mentees become better role models in both good and bad times. The mentees remind them that there are always little eyes on them and that our behavior has a ripple effect throughout our community. |
