Boys Team Results The Portagers piled up 100 points to take home the first place trophy at Saturdays Mesick Invitational. Marion was second with 65 points, while remaining teams and places included: 3rd Frankfort, 58.5 points, 4th Manton, 55.5 pts, 5th (tie) Glen Lake & Mason County Eastern, 44 pts, 6th Buckley, 37 pts, 7th - Brethren, 28 pts, 8th McBain Northern Michigan Christian, 22 pts, 9th Baldwin, 21 pts, and in 10th Mesick 17 pts. Manistee Catholic Central, Walkerville, Crossroads Christian Academy, Pentwater and Traverse City Christian also participated. Senior Luke Allen had a very successful day at Mesick, taking first in the 1600 and 800 meter runs, while also helping his team earn first place finishes in both the 3200 and 1600 meter relays. Junior Ryan Brown set a new junior class record with his time of 41.84 in the intermediate hurdles, breaking the previous record of 41.99 set by Bob Thomas in 1998. Brown also posted a personal best in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.3, while several of his teammates also had PRs in their events Boys Individual Results: Names in boldface indicate a personal best: (no pole vault competition at this meet)
Although the scoring sheets indicate first through sixth place only, several Portagers worked hard to score personal bests. Fleet-footed freshman Eric Maddux had a time of 24.7 in the 100 dash prelims, while fellow freshman phenom Jordan Maxey had a 17.4 in the 110 high hurdles. Senior Tom Gillespie ran a 57.3 in the 400 meter run, while junior Andy Desmarais raced to a 2:14 in the 800, shaving 12 seconds off his previous best time. |
