The
Onekama Portager boys placed second at the regional meet,
and nine team members qualified for the upcoming Division
IV state meet to be held in Grand Rapids on Saturday,
June 4th. Final point totals for boys: Frankfort, 130 pts, Onekama, 96 pts, Mason County Eastern, 66 pts, Glen Lake, 58 pts, Brethren, 47 pts, North Muskegon, 46 pts, Hesperia, 39 pts, Buckley, 24 pts, Baldwin, 11 pts, Mesick, 8 pts, Walkerville, 2 pts. Pentwater & Manistee Catholic, 0 pts. On a warm and sunny afternoon, the team did a terrific job of performance prowess and promise. Heading to the state finals are senior Luke Allen, who took first in the 800 & 1600 meter runs, and anchored the first place 1600 meter relay team. Senior Jordan Wilson qualified for state with his 4th place pole vault of 12, and senior Dustin Thomas took first place in the high jump to head to state and also qualified as a member of the 400m relay team. Junior Ryan Brown qualified for state in four events, placing third in the pole vault, second in the 110 & 300 m hurdles, and was a member of the 1600 m relay team. Junior Josh Groenwald qualified in the 3200 m run and as a member of the 3200m relay team; junior Nate Milarch qualified as a member of the 3200m, 400m and 1600 m relay teams; sophomore Nick Swisher qualified as a 3200m relay team member; freshman Eric Maddux also qualified in three events super stuff for a freshman! - as a member of the 3200m, 400m, and 1600m relay teams, and freshman Anthony Reedy will be attending his first state final meet as a member of the 400m relay team. Several personal bests were recorded, highlighted by senior Mike Coryells first medal ever, with his fifth place discus throw of 1179". Chris Smith earned medals in both the shot and the discus, while sophomore Taylor Fraly scored yet another PR in the 300 m hurdles. Freshman Jordan Maxey earned a 6th place finish in the 110 high hurdles and was the sole freshman in the final heat. Anthony Reedy broke the freshman record in the 200meter run and is only one second away from the school record; he also had a 100m PR time in the prelims. Individual results

Final point totals for girls: The Onekama Portager girls placed fourth at the regional meet, and seven team members qualified for the upcoming Division IV state meet to be held in Grand Rapids on Saturday, June 4th. Point totals: Glen Lake 108, Frankfort 72, North Muskegon 70.5, Onekama 63, Mason Co. Eastern 57, Baldwin 52, Mesick 43.5, Brethren 26, Hesperia 13, Buckley 12, Pentwater 8, Walkerville 1, Manistee Catholic Central 0 Individual results for girls: Another spectacular day for the lady Portagers as they finished only 9 points out of 2nd place. Heading to the state finals are Senior MaryLynn Bradford who will compete in 2 events she took 1st in the Discus 92'1", and was a member of the winning 3200m Relay team along with Senior Samantha Mitchell, Senior Ashley Zupin and Freshman Jade Wethy with a personal best by 11 seconds finishing in 10:28. Senior Stephanie Keith continues to dominate the Long Jump with a 1st place leap of 14'11" and Sophomores, Ronnie Maidens took 2nd in the 100m High Hurdles and Marlee Herkelrath was 2nd in the Pole Vault 8'0. Other medal winners were Freshman Kelsey Acker's 5th place in the Pole Vault and 6th place in the 100m High Hurdles.
