Onekama Track April 27 |
Got room for one more?! It's really cold out here! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR almost as bad as the FrostBite at Onekama.....*teeth chattering*.. |
Sr. Mike Coryell concentrates on his discus technique. He was quite pleased with his throws today. |
The
Portager boys took first place in the first West Michigan
D Jamboree of the season, held on April 27th
at Mason County Eastern (MCE). The trackletes tallied a
total of 171.5 points, followed by Brethren with 140 pts,
MCE with 91.5 points, Baldwin, 44 pts; Pentwater, 16 pts;
and Walkerville, 15 pts. Once again, several personal bests were recorded. Track season moves with the speed of lightning as the season packs in lots of competition in a short time, and the trackletes are doing an admirable job of keeping up with the pace. Next up the Mesick Inviational on Saturday, April 30. Boys Individual Results:

And it's outta here! Another nice throw by an OHS Discus competitor. |
Seems his finger has been hurting him for awhile now, so he taped it up to be safe also. Better hurry, it's first call for Boy's Shot Put. |
Sr. Mike Coryell gives it his all for OHS in the Shot put event as well as spotted his team mate's throws so that they received the proper measurements. |
Sr. Chris Smith was throwing around 130 feet in the warmups. After two disappointing throws during the actual competition around 109 feet, he pulled it together and flew one 122 feet. |
Sr. Dominic Morrill was a little disappointed with one of his throws, but the other two flew nicely out there. |
He is our left handed fellow so I had to run to the other side quickly to snap this shot of him as the shot put leaves his hand. |
Sr. Josh Vertalka PR'd at today's meet. He is over 101 feet now and while i couldn't quite hear the lady to grasp his actual measurement, he was jumping for joy. Well done! |
Sr. Chris Smith had determination set on his mind to put a good one today. |
Sr. Dominic Morrill demonstrated good technique in his puts today as well. |
What makes our trackletes so good in their events I asked of them? Why, it is their hairy chins....ohhhhhhhh! As I looked around there did appear to be several with hairy faces and they were all proud of it! |
Miss Zupin tapes her ankles in preparation of the meet at MCE. She should think about maybe Nursing or Doctor, as she is very good at this taping procedure! |
Not only does Tim Veverica golf and
wrestle, he can fly over hurdles too! Here he flies over
the first hurdle in the event. |
While others huddled in masses for warmth between turns, our OHS shotputter steps up to the box and puts one out there for OHS. |
While going over to the Discus event i came across Sr. Dustin Thomas competing in the high jump event. |
All of our Shot putters did well today, including Sr. Josh Vertalka. |
This height found the bar being knocked off by the competitors including Dustin...but he was still smiling when I left. |
As the shot put left his hand, you could feel that there will be great things to come from him in the future! Power and determination was demonstrated by all of our shotputters today. |
